Chain Chain Chain

I’ve been wearing a lot of black lately. And I won’t lie and say it’s not because of my mood. It might very well be. For a while I was wearing very bright colors, and feeling…OK. But I have to admit that getting near the end of my third month of unemployment, and Nathan’s second…is discouraging. I am starting to lose my confidence.

But I digress.

This is what I wore to church Sunday. I’m not sure how many of you attend church, but the dress code has changed. When I was a child, it was “Sunday Best”, but now, really anything goes. And I’m OK with that. I’m OK with you wearing jeans and a tee shirt. But I really like getting dressed up, and for now, I’m sticking with the old dress code. I might change my tune again when I get back to a nine to five groove. Trust me.

Saturday I woke up from an afternoon nap aware that later we were going to go out and meet up with friends. And I was having one of those days where I just wanted to wear an American Apparel deep v and some jeans. I did not want to get dressed up. And I thought how can I get away with that? My Bona Drag jacket and some sort of chunky necklace? But I didn’t really HAVE a chunky necklace. So I went though the drawer I keep full of old jewelry I don’t really wear anymore and found a couple of Target base metal necklaces and went to work. It took a couple hours, but I deconstructed the necklaces and made myself a chunky multi chain necklace.

My favorite part is the little tassel I added down the back…

Your church must be pretty rock n' roll!

I would pay a lot of money for that necklace. I wish I kept all the old necklaces I had as a teenager because I would totally be able to do something like that... unfortunately I am dumb and gave them away! I am going to keep my eye out for cheapie stuff I can reconstruct. You = genius!

PS--I am sorry you feel discouraged. I wish I could do something, ANYTHING to help. I love you!!

Good for you for dressing nicely for church! I'm kinda old school and think people should do that, no matter what religion they are. I'm Buddhist and when we go to the temple I always try to dress nicely.

I love the black-with-brown combo, by the way! I think that's a great way too jazz up an all-black outfit.

Ok, so my city is now getting a Sephora (yay, no more mail order!) and an Ikea, but still no Target. If we were getting a Target I'd be so happy I would faint. I think the goal of my ex-employer the Bay, was to turn all of their Zellers into a Target-type store, but it's still not THE Target.

I'm so deeply sorry that you're feeling down. <3

I love the necklace...one of my favorite things is when a little chain hangs down at the back of a necklace like that, and I love what you did with it!

Awesome job on the necklace. Those are really nice metals, how many necklaces were they before your recreation?

Hi, I stop here now and then to admire your outfits. I have a question about your Bona Drag jacket. I just got one, and it looks awesome open, but is very uncomfortable zipped up. Is yours? I know it's not fashionable to zip it, but the practical side of me feels like it SHOULD be possible.

Love your blog!
