Happy Halloween

We normally have a big to-do at work and decorate our floors and have a HUGE contest.

But not this year.

I’m pretty bummed about it, but I’ll get over it. Nathan and Lara are performing in a mock Goth band at a couple parties tonight and that will be fun.

We were at least aloud to wear Halloween inspired clothing!~

Remembering my shopaholic rules: I am aloud 1 piece from each new Go International or designer collection from Target. And I will only buy one if I really want it and can use it. This is very different from my past behavior of basically buying any and everything in allll of the releases I liked and fit.

This jacket is my selection from the current collection.

Oct 31

And I love it.

I’ve had this shirt for YEARS

Oct 31

So back at the height of my addiction, I collected Tokidoki for Lesportsac bags. I can’t even tell you how many I had. I still have quite a few, but of all of them this is my favorite, because I love Halloween.

Please click through to see them larger if you are curious about the print. It’s supa cute.

I made this necklace a few years back with PMC (precious metal clay, basically clay, that when you fire it, turns to sterling silver LIKE MAGIC), and I love it. I’ve made a few more as gifts and I just really think it’s a great design. I’m very proud of it.

Oct 31

I did not make the earrings, but they are fabulous. And were cheap. You can only kind of see this, but the hoops are made to look like little bones. SUPA cute.

Too Little House on the Prairie

I called Erin when I got in this morning and told her that every time I wear this I remember how she tried on the ecru version and deemed it “Too Little House on the Praire”*. And then I got the black. And she says she doesn’t think that about the black, but I still hear her say it every time I wear it, and it makes me giggle**.

That said, I love this dress. I feel thin and curvy and fabulous in it. SO fabulous I broke out the “high fashion pose”***

Oct 30

One of my very favorite combos is the all black outfit, brown shoes and bag. I think it really makes the accessories pop.

Oct 30

This jacket is a vintage wonder. In perfect condition, and all of $12 at a thrift store. AND it has remained flattering after my weight loss. Which I am glad for as it would be reallllllllyyyy expensive to tailor, I’m afraid.****

*Kasmira has the ecru and it looks fabulous on her and NOT Too Little House on the Prairie at all.

**Bernadette and Erin and I had all gone to Target on our lunch break to scope out the Jovovich Hawke collection. And Erin tried on a swimsuit. With tights. And walked out to use the 3 way mirror, and then I laughed about it ALL day, and she went home, did a flashy jazz pose in the tights and swimsuit and sent a picture of it to my phone…and THIS memory is probably what I am ACTUALLY laughing at.

***This pose makes me think of my sister in law Michelle, who has a Bridal portrait in this pose. And looks fabulous enough to make a girl jealous doing it.

****Oh, nothing. I just really wanted another footnote. :D

Summer Dress

...makes you more beautiful than the rest- Red House Painters

This is in fact, a summer dress. It's linen. But I don’t really separate my clothes by season. The extremes here in Texas aren’t all that extreme. And I like my summer dresses. I added a warm sweater, a slip and some leggings. When it gets colder, I can add a turtleneck and layer tights under the leggings, and throw on a coat.

Oct 29

I really wish I had remembered to open the sweater for a picture, as the dress has a really nice corset-y waistline. So pretty. I’ll show you next time.

Tewsdai

Have I ever told you that lol cats are one of my greatest joys in life? Well now you know.

It is pretty cold today!~ Too cold to be taking pictures outside without my jacket.

Oct 28

But I did it anyway.

I ordered a ton of jewelry making supplies last week, with the goal of opening an etsy store soon, and some of them arrived yesterday. I was home sick, so I made some things. I am going to end up keeping these. Not selling them. But I can always make more.

Pretty in Pink

We went to an art opening at our friend Eric’s office. We weren’t sure of the dress code, and when we got there most of the other girls were in jeans and nice tops, or casual dresses, but I’d rather be a little over dressed than under dressed ANY day. Erin gave me this dress last time we cleaned out her closet, and I was really excited to have an excuse to wear it. It’s a size too big, but I don’t think it’s noticeable, and it would be pretty expensive to tailor.

October 25

I got tons of compliments at the showing, as well as later, when we went down to Oak Lawn for the big Halloween block party. I swear, every year I end up having another event on the night of the block party and end up not being able to wear a costume. But at least I looked great. I just said I was dressed as a girl.

I love the contrast of the biker jacket and party dress, and I really liked the way the dress was cut so that it showed off my tattoo when I took the jacket off. That way with or without the jacket I maintained a little bit of edginess.

October 25

I changed into flats for the block party, but these shoes were actually pretty comfortable for the couple hours that I stood around in them, and I think they are perfect for the dress.

Bunnies, Bunnies it must be BUNNIES…or maybe midgets…

There is really no excuse for these boots, ever.

Oct 24

There is no situation wherein one might need snow boots, that are ALSO a high heel, ALSO made of moon boot fabric, and ALSO an unflattering mid-calf height.

Oct 24

That said, I love these boots. I call them the “Boots of Supreme Ridiculousness”. They are FUN.

Cold Front, yay!

Today is brought to you almost in it’s entirety by Target. If they actually carried nice leather boots and handbags, it might have been a sweep. I really feel boots should be leather if at all possible, because it’s a better investment, and my feet can BREATHE. I also just really prefer a leather bag. I’ve bought a few pleather bags and I just end up never carrying them. It’s probably a good thing. No telling HOW many bags I’d own if I liked pleather bags as well!

Oct 23

This is the last of the “new” items from this season. I had, I think, 3. And they were all dresses, all from Target, all from the SAME RACK of floral sheer dresses.

This is one of those bags, like my big purple abro bag, that when I switch over to it, I often carry it for days. It just goes with everything, it made of the nicest leather and is huge. I also love the shape and the little front pockets. I don’t normally like outer pockets much, but the styling on these is so cute.

Oct 23

I got these earrings maybe 2 weeks after Kasmira first wore them. Probably less. I was obsessed. I love them but they are so heavy I don’t wear them very often.

(I’m giving picnik another chance today. The edited photos on my 365 blog seem to be working now.)

Only shades of grey

Eh, I think I am going to have this skirt tailored to more of a fitted shape. The way it sits now is super unflattering. If it were thinner material, the shape might be fine, but it’s so bulky!

The sweater over a dress thing

Speaking of repeats!~ I JUST wore this dress last week. But I styled it differently today. I had an entire outfit planned around a cold front that doesn’t come in today. Whoops. So I had to improvise.

Oct 21

Every time I see someone do the sweater over the dress thing, I think “SO CUTE” and then when I try it myself I’m never sure. This is the first time I’ve been happy enough with the results to actually make it out of the house in the combo.

Oct 21

I’m giving myself a dirty look because I forgot to put on my slip. And while this dress is not see through in the least, it does mean my tights will be sticking to my dress all day. I am not pleased with myself!

Oct 21

These shoes are super cute, and I have more than got my moneys’ worth since I got them last year.

Oct 21

The locket has a picture of Nathan on one side and me on the other. XOXO

Oct 21

I called these “jellyfish” earrings when Erin first made them, because, well…they look like jellyfish!~

How to style a Baby Morrissey

*You need Hair Spray and bobby pins. I use up to four bobby pins. More than that looks a little cluttered. And a lot of hair spray. It needs to be the kind that does not get flaky or white bits when you comb through it.

You need hair spray and bobby pins

Grab a small section at the front of your hair (I include a little bit more than my bangs) and hold it STRAIGHT UP. Spray it from the front AND the back, and then hold it upright until the hair spray dries. Then let it fall.

Grab a small section from the front of your hair...

Reach up and sort of "stir" your hair, like you are washing it.

'Reach

Now spray the hot mess that made.

Spray the hot mess you made

We are getting close!~ Reach back with one hand and gather the hair and place the first pin in. Keep pinning until it feels secure.

Reach back with one hand and gather the hair together

But like I said, more than four will look sort of cluttered...

I use up to 4 pins

Spray it again. YES, again.

Spray it. Again.

TA-DA!~ You're done.

DONE.

*you can view bigger pics by clicking on through to the Flickr set, which also has instructions.

Begin Again

Well, Picnik seems to be down for the count, and I want to go ahead and get back to blogging, so I am going to be freestyle unedited for now!

This dress is the same dress I wore on Day 1. I’m wearing different boots, and different jewelry, but it’s the same cardigan. Which brings me to something that is really starting to concern me. This blog? By it’s very nature, is going to contain repeat outfits, which is something I don’t see a lot of on style blogs. And I am not sure what the reader response will be. Will you get bored and stop checking? I hope not. I hope that I can remain interesting and relevant without having to wear something brand new to you every day. Here’s hoping…

Dancing Machine

Went dancing Saturday night. Had a blast. Showed the other girls the light by still being on the dance floor at 1:30 AM, instead of sitting it out because I wore heels. ALWAYS wear flats dancing!

Nathan took these pictures, and he kept saying “turn out…turn out more…”

OK. Wow. That behind…that looks pretty impressive, yeah? That almost looks store bought.

This on the other hand…

Oct 18

THAT almost looks phototshopped.
