I Met With Tax Lawyers Dressed Like This
It was casual Friday, so I was casual. But then I got pulled, last minute, into a meeting with 3 lawyers to discuss the finer points of tax law. Just in case you were wondering, tax law is boring. And when you are in a room of well dressed lawyers in a baby doll dress and skin tight jeans, you feel a little out of place. Even more so when you happen to be the only girl in the room.
But other than that, I liked it.
I know you know I’m not a huge jeans and a dress kind of girl. I only have 2 dresses I feel like I can make it work with, and I need the jeans in question to be really slim fit.
I normally reserve this skirt for weekends, and wear it with a pair of denim shorts. But It is so breezy and cool I wanted to make it work for the office. And please please please, if anyone knows where I can get a knee length, or slightly shorter hot pink petticoat to wear with this for a reasonable price, let me know. Because I think this dress just screams for a pink petticoat, but I have not been able to find one yet. (I've tried Hot Topic and the stripper store. I can't think where else to look.)
Seriously. It needs a petticoat. Brown would also do. Or cream.

In other news, I’ve decided not to do the jeans giveaway. I was not 100% down with a couple things that needed to happen. HOWEVER, as a replacement, I’ll be doing a Love Erin Designs give away starting TOMORROW. So check that out and I hope that it proves a welcome substitution.

Weekness
Has it really been a WEEK? I apologize, that is super lame.
I’ve been feeling down lately. Our continuing unemployment situation is getting everyone at my house down. One or the other of us has been unemployed for 8 months now. That’s a long time, and it leaves a lot of things up in the air. It makes for an uncomfortable day to day. It also makes life just a bit more boring, since we can’t afford to go out much.
When I feel down, I feel uninspired, and when I feel uninspired I get awfully quiet.
But I do still get dressed.
I have had this jacket since before I got fat and then lost weight, which is a long time! I had a job back in the day that required me to cover up my tattoos. I wore a watch over the “Rani” on my wrist and I did not yet have the stars on my forearm. My shoulder and arm got covered with several blazers I took to the tailor and had altered to short sleeves (This was about a year before short sleeve blazers were everywhere, of course).
In Texas, year round blazers are just not an option. I had one blazer in particular that I took in and asked that they shorten the sleeves and add epaulets. (I hope that the right word!) The tailor thought this was great and declared “She have good fashion!” That statement has stayed with me ever since.
I was SO pleased to get such positive feedback about the lion pin you guys. I cannot even tell you how long it took to find just the right pin for me, but this is it.
Black pants, brown shoes, brown bangle, brown earrings. I know some people still don’t love the black and brown combo, but I really do.
So proud of these. Can’t wait to get them in the store. (Should be updating THIS Saturday!)

This Was Mostly About the Shoes, Really.
When I got home last night and set about taking pictures in the back yard it just didn’t go well. You’d think after all this time I’d be able to get a good shot easy as pie, but yesterday I ended up cutting off my head in all but one picture. Such is life I guess, and really it’s not such a huge tragedy. This outfit is not anything new, I’ve just changed up the accessories I choose.
I got these little tassels from a jewelry supply just to make earrings from. Most of the time the less than basic supplies I buy, I buy because they inspire me, and then I figure out what to do with them once I get them. But these just wanted to be earrings from the start.
I have been searching for a cool pin for ages. I love the way Tina and Kasmira wear them, but I wanted to make sure I found one that was right for me. Vintage, maybe a slight military feel and cheap, in case it turns out I’m not such a pin wearing girl after all. At all of 3 bucks, this double lion head pin fit the bill just fine.
Unfortunately the picture that best captured the pin, also best captured my biggest problem with that purple jacket, which is that it picks up every piece of lint, dirt and dust within a 10 foot radius. If anyone has any suggestions on how to deal with that, I’d love to hear them!
Another less than 5 dollar vintage piece…
And now for the shoes. It was mostly about the shoes.
As you know, my husband and I are feeling the economic crunch. One or both of us has been unemployed since last November. That’s a long time. And as a result, we are pretty broke. And I need new jeans (I promise, I am going to get to the shoes!). Because we are broke, I’ve been trying on jeans at thrift stores, Ross, and second hand stores. And as I’m sure you can guess, I am having a really tough time finding a pair that fits both my behind and my needs. And it is really starting to get me down. After a particularly brutal fitting room session at Ross, I wandered into the next door Payless. Where I planned to try on shoes (which I do sometimes just for fun), to boost my self esteem a bit. Because shoes pretty much always fit.
And there they were. Alice and Olivia. Marked down to $15 for $38. And so ridiculous. Unnecessary. And stunning.
And I never ever would have even considered them at $38. They are just not practical. But at $15 I had to have them. Irresponsible, a bit, sure. But all in all a $15 splurge is something I can live with, and the results? Well. They were totally worth it. I felt so pretty and tall and thin and funky all day.
So thank you Alice and Olivia, you made my day.

“That’s a Cute Outfit”
As I was leaving my husband said “That’s a cute outfit”. My husband makes a point of telling me that I look pretty every time I get dressed. And I love him for it. But when he switches it up, I know it must be true.
Last week at work our AC was broken, so it was really pretty nice in the AM, since Texas tends to over chill our indoor air all summer. But by afternoon it was super hot and we were all very cranky. And we took to wearing little summery things like this with no cardigans.
Well, the AC worked today. Really well. And it was freezing. I ended up wearing the trench coat I keep at work as well as draping a sweatshirt over my legs. I mean it was Arctic up in there.
I got this dress off the clearance rack ages ago. I had no idea at the time I’d get so much use out of it. It works all 4 seasons depending on the layers and it’s held up really well.
“It’s funny. Because it’s a razor blade…and it’s on your wrist, see?” I was well and truly amused with myself for coming up with this one, just so you know. I know it’s a bit dark, but I also think it’s adorable. I can’t wait to add a couple to the shop.
My new polish is Urban Decay’s Bruise. It’s a fabulous purple with green shimmer.
My nude polish for those that asked, is two Sally Hansen colors.
Two coats of Diamond Strength in Nude Shimmer (on the left) and one coat in Pink Promise(right).
*When I took the vote, the jeans had it. I think perhaps since then the scarves may have overtaken the vote, but I’ve already selected the prize. Details tomorrow!~*
