Weekness

Has it really been a WEEK? I apologize, that is super lame.

I’ve been feeling down lately. Our continuing unemployment situation is getting everyone at my house down. One or the other of us has been unemployed for 8 months now. That’s a long time, and it leaves a lot of things up in the air. It makes for an uncomfortable day to day. It also makes life just a bit more boring, since we can’t afford to go out much.

When I feel down, I feel uninspired, and when I feel uninspired I get awfully quiet.

But I do still get dressed.

July 6

I have had this jacket since before I got fat and then lost weight, which is a long time! I had a job back in the day that required me to cover up my tattoos. I wore a watch over the “Rani” on my wrist and I did not yet have the stars on my forearm. My shoulder and arm got covered with several blazers I took to the tailor and had altered to short sleeves (This was about a year before short sleeve blazers were everywhere, of course).

July 6

In Texas, year round blazers are just not an option. I had one blazer in particular that I took in and asked that they shorten the sleeves and add epaulets. (I hope that the right word!) The tailor thought this was great and declared “She have good fashion!” That statement has stayed with me ever since.

I was SO pleased to get such positive feedback about the lion pin you guys. I cannot even tell you how long it took to find just the right pin for me, but this is it.

July 6

Black pants, brown shoes, brown bangle, brown earrings. I know some people still don’t love the black and brown combo, but I really do.

July 6

So proud of these. Can’t wait to get them in the store. (Should be updating THIS Saturday!)

I posted about your shop on July 2nd.

http://fashionafterforty.blogspot.com/2009/07/key-to.html

there were alot of positive comments on your jewelry. Was hoping you got some more orders.

with Texas being so hot, I can understand it's hard to wear a long sleeved blazer. The jackets in your last two posts are a perfect compromise.

I LOVE the short-sleeved blazers on you. That jacket is so adorable (and your smile in the first picture makes me want to hug you right now ~ soooo cute)!

I'm sorry you're feeling down. I really miss your posts when you're quiet! I love you!

That's a good idea - having jackets altered to be short-sleeved. I really hate wearing jackets because they're constricting, but this could help. Cool!

I love black/brown. It seems like a very natural combo to me. I didn't realize there was a controversy over it until a woman told me one day (when I was wearing black/brown), "You know, not many people can pull of black and brown like that, but it looks great on you!" Until that point, I hadn't given it much thought!

I'm loving the short sleeve jacket. And I think I need the name of your tailor. I have a couple of things that I don't want to ruin bty trying to alter them myself.

I know it's hard with the economy. We are in the same boat at our house. We've been trying to get out of the house but not spend any money. FYI - the Nasher Sculpture Garden has free admission Thursday nights this month. And they are showing a free movie outdoors this Friday (I think it's You've Got Mail). just in case you guys would enjoy either of those...

Oh, doll, I didn't realize you were both still out of work. YUCKS. Do keep us posted as things develop ... I hope work will come your way soon!

In the meantime, you just look AWESOME in this. I wish I looked as tall and slender in pants as you do.

Oh I must have phrased that poorly Sal, I tried but what I meant was that for 8 months one or both of us has been unemployed. Currently I am working and he is not. But he’s the real breadwinner and my salary is being stressed as far as it can go. So one of us IS working. Didn’t mean to alarm.

Sher, Thank you so much. I relisted that red key after I saw that ;D

Tina, I use Unique on Greenville by Campisis? They are fabulous.

Suz,
Its a CHEAP alteration as well.

Thanks, Erin! And since it appears that I forgot to mention it earlier, you look great today. Every time I see your pics, I am so jealous of your shiny hair. Mine is frizz-tastic. :)

i just returned home from a trip to Michaels, where i bought some jewelry-making supplies. it was stuff id fallen in love with, but i knew there was something familiar about them. after coming back to your blog, i see its the same 2-tone blue beetle pendant you have and the snake-clasp you turned into a pendant! (i got the silver, though, since thats more my style) i guess youve inspired my fashion even more than im aware of!

I really dig black and brown together, though I don't think I ever do it much myself!

Your jewelry is beautiful- I love how you mix mediums so well!

Just read about your jeans search- hang in there, because I was in the exact same boat. No money for premium jeans, hate the cheap stuff. So I haunted Goodwill, TJ Maxx, Buffalo Exchange... for months. Then one day, struck gold at the Goodwill close to the university (I'm in Seattle). Scored a perfect fitting pair of like new Red Engine jeans and a pair of Guess jeans that will get worn everyday. Both of them for less than $40. On the same day. If you have a thrift store close to UT, stalk it. I am so thrilled with my jeans haul, it makes up for the months of looking!

Ugh, unemployment just SUCKS SO MUCH. So sorry.

Your carful covering of ink could have been written by me - always a bracelet or watch worn curiously high above my wrist to cover one, 3/4 (or close) sleved jackets, cardies, shirts, anything that might be semi-cool in summer temps and still keep office tounges from wagging..
Oh well...
