She Bangs, She Bangs!

After over a year of hemming and hawing and being turned down by one stylist, I found another who agreed cut bangs for me.

Bangs

So far it's a love/hate relationship. For the first week, it was mostly hate. But I was prepared for that. I take a while to warm up to pretty much any change at all when it comes to my hair.

Bangs

I ultimately went ahead with the change because I was so tired of bumping the front that I dreaded having to style it, but didn't know what else to do. With it all one length, anytime I wore it down, it was in my face all day...sticking to my lip gloss, obstructing my view and I ended up touching it so much it had to be washed the next day. I'm not great with braids, and headbands give me a headache. I've had bangs before and loved them for years so they seemed the most obvious and simple solution.

Bangs

And so far, it's worked. I can wear it all down, no problem. And I can do that for 2 days before it gets dirty enough I need to put it up, and then I do a topknot or ponytail for a couple days and wash again on night 4. It's a bit more often than I'm used to washing, but I can work with it. Plus I've even skipped the flat iron a couple days, and I haven't been able to do that for YEARS.

Bangs

It's very... dramatic. The bangs make the rest of it look even longer. And I think they make me look younger. I already look younger than my age, but I'll take it. I think I'll probably keep them for a while.

YOU LOOK FLIPPIN AWESOME!!
I love the new look.

The new bangs look very nice, with your dark hair and fair complexion it's a very Bettie Page look.
The only bad part about bangs is growing them out when you are through.
Also I love your leather skirt.

Love the bangs on you! And I can't believe how long your hair is. I think I got so used to seeing your top knot that I forgot about the length.

I too have been considering cutting my bangs again. This would be a way for me to change my hair style without chopping it off which I have then tendency to do.

Ok...I know that I have had bangs for over 40 years...BUT, I love your hair...I love your bangs and I love it down!! It looks edgy and youthful! Great look!

I think that the bangs look great on you. I had a stylist refuse to cut layers in my hair once, which is crazy because my hair needs layers.

There is no way I can properly express how great I think you look with bangs. It totally makes me want to cut bangs. Even though I KNOW I look stupid with bangs. Love love love.

YAY, I'm so happy you have bangs again. I'm glad they are growing on you (ha ha, so to speak) because I really like how they look! I agree that they make your hair look even longer and you even younger (how is that even possible?!). Such a cute look on you~!

XO!

Looks great! Very cute, and at the same time very serious. And the bangs go really well with your glasses, by the way.

I just went back and read that story of your other hair appointment. What an annoying experience! Though my experience is that hair with layers is actually easier to style. I don't use any styling products really, and when my hair is layered it dries up to a nice volume with some waves, whereas when it's not layered it just hangs straight down with no fluff... but I guess it depends on what you want it to do, and what texture you have, so I'll just shut up already :)

The bangs look so great, E. I admired them last week on Facebook! :)

And we need to talk about that skirt. I think I am in love with it!

It does make the rest of your hair longer, and so shiny and lush! I think it's a great change, and I can relate to having to wash hair more often. Actually thinking I need thicker bangs like yours!

Erin said...

Oooh! Very dramatic; very 60's beat and...to me, vaguely French? I don't know where my mind makes these associations. Maybe all things super-chic are French? I'm so glad that they're making you happy!

oh, and btw...I'm all for the bangs!!

I'm getting bangs friday - I always go back and forth - but its bang time now! They look super cute on you lady! :)

I had the same experience with my bangs. They're grown out now but when I first got them I felt like I looked more youthful and I didn't even need to "style" my hair because the hairstyle pretty much was the style. I really enjoyed them for a time but I don't think I'll go back anytime soon.

I think, from certain angles, yours are very reminiscent of Bettie Page's hair, who I love. Especially the one where you're looking down at your shoulder, it's a really interesting and different shape.

Let me add my voice to the chorus - the bangs are completely cute.

This is apropos for me! I have gone back and forth with bangs, growing out my hair, and generally having a hell of time figuring it out. I decided to take the plunge and do heavy/thicker bangs. I even sent an email out to a fellow blogger who actually has my same hair to ask for advice!

Long story short, you look fantastic! They are perfect on you and you look adorable. Cheers!

In love with your bangs. It's crazy how it changes your entire look completely. So cool.

Ana said...

Oh wow, the bangs make you look so different!! Awesome!

Elissa said...

Wow. Your bangs are amazeballs. I've kinda been waiting for a full debut and I'm blown away. They really accentuate what gorgeous hair you have. And that skirt looks so much better on you than it did on me. On me, it was bad. Very bad. On you = just awesome. But that's the case for most things.

Elia said...

I love the bangs! And I don't think they make you look younger, just more glamorous! Also - this outfit is awwwwesome. You look smashing.

Kimi said...

Mmmhmm. Yes. Very nice! Bangs + glasses = perfection (that is the extent of my mathematical ability).

Wow! Those bangs do make your hair look way long! And you look super cute too!

OMG! You look fabulous! Like Fabulous! I love them! They give you an edge! I likes!

I LOVE the bangs. They're really cute and frame your face nicely. I'm sad my bangs are growing out.

That's a gorgeous leather skirt.

I like the bangs! I can completely relate to your bangs trials and tribulations - it's quite difficult to get them just right, and when they're wrong, they can be such an annoyance. I go slightly crazy with them poking me in the eyes all day. I've considered going shorter like you did, and I think they look really great on you. Maybe I'll be able to take the plunge one day!

I LOVE IT, 'small forehead and glasses' and all! You look fabulous! Keep in mind that your hair will get used to the bangs, too--- they'll feel more natural in a few weeks!

i adore the bangs on you! Really lovely. I have a similar hair length and have been thinking of a change in styling. I am not sure if bangs are for me, but maybe some layers. Currently I am still a bit hesitant though.

You look simply STUNNING with bangs!!! They bring out your gorgeous dark eyes even more, emphasize your amazing complexion even more...and I love the Bettie Page feel with, haha, didn't you call them "nerd glasses"? (I think they're fabulous, period!) On top of all that this is one of your coolest ever outfits. The pink tones in the top are SO flattering to you! Whew!!!

Such a brave step, considering the length of your hair! I hope the love wins over the hate!

I love the bangs on you - you still have that wonderful retro look (very pin-up girl) but you look much more current. The bump was fine, but this is so much better!

Love that leather skirt!!

Girl. You look so adorable! I know what you mean about the maintenance, though. Bangs take WORK. But I know you have it in you. When my bangs got me down I would do a little twisty thing and pin them back. It was kind of romantic-looking and still gave the front of my head volume. I guess that sounds a little weird but it's true.

Unknown said...

Girl! Yes, and you are rocking it. Love the look (as always).

Jodie said...

It does make you look younger, but in that kind of clean and pure hippy chick way (the nice hippy chick look, not the 'I am genuinely afraid of soap' kind of way). I would never let anyone take away my fringe, ever, although I considered a side fringe for a bit, so glad to see someone as fashionable as you rejoining the 'bangs' club.

I love the bangs! What a fantastic change! I once read a Tim Gunn quote that said, " Consider hair an accessory. You would never carry an accessory that you just felt blah about." so the cut was well done if you were iffy about your hair before! I love the bangs and think they look absolutely fantastic on you!!

The bangs look great and I love that blouse with the skirt. It's a great color and the seeming is so pretty. I love romantic tops so much so that I have to be careful not too purchase too many because they don't always work for me in the office.

your bangs are magnificant.....ultra chic!!!

ok Im so late on this but I LOVE the bangs and yes, they make the rest of your hair look much longer but then you wore it up quite often so maybe I never realized how long it is in the first place. Maybe I should try bangs, I wear the top knot pouf thing like every single day and my husband is growing to despise it. Anyhow, you look awesome with bangs, I love the new 'do.
