To All Those Questions, I Have No Answer

I had a pretty good weekend. The weather was really nice. I am going to really miss being able to wear these shorts come Summer temps. They are super comfortable and flattering, but way too short to wear without leggings or tights.

May 8

I kept it pretty low key. I am normally really excited about getting dressed up at just about any opportunity, but lately I’m aiming more for comfort than anything else.

May 8

Friday we made chicken tacos the easy way, with a rotisserie chicken someone else cooked! Plus sautéed onions, flour tortillas, sour cream, cheese, guacamole…see? Not eating super low fat maybe, but super tasty, yes! AND I was really proud of myself because I wanted 4 tacos and ate 2. I also skipped the chips and guac as a dip altogether, which wasn’t easy since Nathan was making them look pretty good! We watched “Sherlock Homes” and I really enjoyed it. It was basically my ideal Friday night. I’m a stay in on Friday kind of girl.

May 8

Saturday I had brunch with a girlfriend and then later we grabbed a pizza with some friends. Sunday we cleaned house and right about the time I was set to kick back and enjoy the day, make dinner, paint my nails, all that kind of stuff, I got into a war with my stomach. My stomach won. It was not pretty. But I’m feeling better now!

How was your weekend? I hope at least some of you managed to be cooler than me and GO OUT a bit.

There's A Possibility I Wouldn't Know

(My office has had a change of policy and we are no longer allowed access to blogger, wordpress or typepad sites, so I will be doing my blogging at night and my blog reading and commenting in marathon sessions 3 or so nights a week. I don’t like it. Commenting and reading your blogs is one of my favorite things, and helps me get through the day, but I also do not argue their right to block said sights.)

I was home sick yesterday, and I feel very much like both my outfit and my face today say “I was home sick yesterday and I don’t really feel like being here.” Such is life.

May 7

I don’t think I’ve worn that tee on the blog before, have I? I got it for my birthday, and it is so soft it feels like vintage. And I love the boxy cropped shape of it.

May 7

I tried to keep it from being narcolepticly boring by wearing some cool accessories.

OK. So let’s talk about Struggle to Fit Into My Skinny Pants.

I’m not doing well. I’ve really struggled both last week and this week. I’ve had some things going on in my personal life that have been really bringing me down. I’ve had trouble just getting out of bed most days. And I feel terrible because this week I am giving you much the same update as last week, which is “I did not do well, I’ll try again” but I can’t lie to you about it, that’s not the point. And I know that you know I am a real person and I have more going on than personal style blogging.

I am hesitant to get into the details because, well, this is not that kind of blog. I come here to have fun, and I assume you come here for the same reason. I don’t write this blog to hash out my deep personal feelings or to get all Debbie Downer on you. So I’ll just say, I’m struggling with some things. It’s making me very tired and very prone to eating Mac & Cheese. I hope it gets better soon. Because those pants are not getting any bigger.

I Keep Dancing On My Own

Last week I cleaned a bunch of perfectly good things I no longer wear out of my wardrobe and I did what I pretty much always do with those things, I gave them to Lara. There was a jean jacket in the pile and she gave me this one out of her wardrobe, claiming she could never figure out how to wear it. It’s a moto jacket, so I’m pretty sure I can handle that!

May 5

It’s supposed to be in the 90’s today! But my office is like a Frigidaire, so I am still rocking a jacket and boots. I am going to be out pretty much all day so I wanted to make sure I would be comfortable anywhere. I am working (with a break for celebratory Mexican food at lunch!) and then we have what may be our last half price food night at Meridian Room with Nick and Colleen before they move out to San Francisco, and then after that we have to do the grocery shopping we put off on Monday before the situation gets dire and we start eating Klondike bars for dinner.

May 5

That can is a Sugar Free Red Thunder, from Aldi. It’s basically a generic version of Sugar Free Red Bull, and a co-worker discovered them for me. It’s a huge budget saver. I was thisclose to having to give up my morning Red Bull because we just can’t afford it anymore. If I buy them in the 12 pack, they are about $1.60 each. The Aldi version is a buck each. So that’s almost half the cost, and they taste pretty much just the same, so I was really stoked to get them!

May 5

I’m cheating and wearing a sports bra again. It just seems so much less offensive peeking out than a “regular” bra, it’s so super comfortable and it doesn’t feel binding at all, the way my Strap Perfect sometimes can. I totally hear those of you that mentioned that it’s not super flattering, and I am sure the flat chested 11th grade version of me would be absolutely mortified that I was not taking full advantage of my new and improved* boobs, but I’m not so fussed about it, to be honest.

I know some of you have expressed interest in getting a better look at my tattoos, and someday I’ll oblige, but for now, I have some things I need to do before I’m comfortable with that, some touch ups and cover ups and what not. But someday, I promise!

May 11

I need to make an effort to wear these earrings more often, because they are beyond cool, and I love them.

*I didn’t get boobs until I was well into my 20’s. I was an A cup (but I wore a B out of pride!) until then. They came with my weight gain, but they mercifully stuck around after I lost the weight.

In A Fast German Car, I‘m Amazed That I Survived

I am not sure I could have gone any more expected or traditional with my accessories today, but when something works, it works!~

May 4

I got this tee at Target when we were in Austin, I got this one and the black and cream striped one I wore last week. I am normally a little scared of stripes. The stories they tell you in school are not lies, they tend to make me look and feel bigger. But something about the cut and the size of the stripes on these actually accentuates my curves in the most flattering way without making me looks big at all. And the fabric is ridiculously soft.

May 4

I can’t believe I’m tucking this in. I swear it had been years! And then last week I tucked the other one in and it just really worked. I tried this with the tee out and it looked totally fine, but in, it just looked so much better.

May 4

I have reached that point where I know it would be better for my hair if I got a trim, but I’m not ready. I have developed some really weird issues about my hair over the years. I used to have both a reoccurring dream and a very real fear that someone would chop it off from behind me in a nightclub. I have no idea where that came from, but to this day I have a tendency to sweep it to the side and over my shoulder so I can see it when I’m out. And I just can’t imagine ever wearing it short again. I cut it short for the last time when Nathan’s dad was in the hospital getting a heart transplant 13(?*) years ago or so. We went to visit him and in his deeply drugged up state he flat out told me he hated it. I never did it again. Clearly I care what my father-in-law thinks! Give me a month and I’ll get it trimmed.

May 4

I know I have too many pictures today, but sometimes you just get a good batch!~ I have not had a good batch in a while cause I keep having sleepy time face every morning. My Blackberry didn’t go off this morning though, and when I looked at it was frozen at the time the alarm should have gone off, and so I had to do a hard reset where you take the battery out, and then it told me it was 7 AM and I almost went back to bed, but instead I checked Nathan’s clock and it told me it was 8 AM. I was so mad. So that got me good and woke up.

May 4

I have been having a lot of trouble creating lately. I sit down with my kit and nothing comes. So I was really excited when I made this a couple weeks ago. I think it came out really pretty and simple and classic.

The following is a genuine reaction to the question “Why don’t you do some scissor kicks?”

IMG_1564

I did not do any scissor kicks.

One last thing, Weardrobe users...I am on some sort of "0 likes" streak. I was getting 10 or so per look there for a while, and I give them freely whenever I like something. Any advice? Is it just a fluke or did I offend someone? Weardrobe continues to not make much sense to me, but I participate 4-5 days a week.

*I am so bad with remembering how long ago stuff was. We were in collage. We were engaged, but not married, I think. And it was the nineties. Ray, my father-in-law is fine now. His heart is younger than me.

Sure I Know It’s Apocalypse, But Can’t It Wait Till I Kiss Your Lips

(I know I skipped “Struggle to Fit Into Your Skinny Pants” last Friday. I did so for a multitude of personal and messy reasons that I won’t go into here, but I apologize, and I’ll be back to that this Friday)

May 3

I am in kind of a “situation” with the bottom half of my wardrobe. I have one plain black skirt. One pair of black pants, and that’s about it. Oh, jeans, but Monday- Thursday those do me no good. My black denim leggings have finally reached a point where they are worn out enough they are not fit for work wear and I just have not managed to replace them yet. I know some of you have suggested thrifting and I am willing to give that a try, but so far I have not had the time to do so (the time you have to put into thrifting to find one decent pair of well fitting work pants, in my experience, is substantial. I might get lucky and find a pair first stop, but I’m not counting on it.)

May 3

So I’m mostly looking at wearing dresses right now, and I do love dresses, but I also get tired of the same ones pretty quick. In Fall and Winter it’s so much easier for me to trick them up. Different jacket, different tights, over the knee socks, all kinds of things. In Spring and Summer I find it harder, but I am willing to see what I can do.

May 3

Today I wanted to carry this bag from Morocco, because I don’t carry it as often as I’d like. That’s sort of what brought the whole situation to light, because I had a really hard time styling this with a dress. In fact, as you can see, I didn’t. I went with the one black skirt. The bag just seems to have so much to say on its own and I didn’t want to drown it out with a floral or other print.

How do you trick up your dresses in Summer? Outside of shoes and jewelry, what am I not tapping into?
