Bruises Bigger Than Dinner Plates

I am not a huge fan of St Patrick’s Day. I’m not a big drinker, and contrary to what my name might lead you to believe, I am not Irish. I don’t like green, and I resent being told what to wear.

March 17

I wear a bit of green anyway, because you never know what kind of zealous nutcase you might run into, running around the office or wherever, gleefully pinching everyone not wearing green. (I cannot believe this is an acceptable practice, buy the way. I mean, what if I took to slapping everyone who was dressed sloppy on the last Friday in March every year, and called it “Stay Fabulous or Get Slapped Friday”? I feel like they deserve it, I shouldn’t have to look at that, and it seems like a more valid thing to physically assault someone over than a lack of green.*)

March 17

I feel like this dress has a lot of re-mix potential. I have several different pairs of shoes and sandals I think will be fun with it, but this particular ensemble (minus the necklaces, but I’ll discuss that later) seemed like the most obvious to me, and I wanted to start with the obvious and move forward. The cowboy boots and chambray run the risk of being to country, but not if you add the studded belt and biker jacket.

March 17

It wrinkles like crazy in the back, which is it’s only real fault, and I will have to iron it pretty much every time I wear it, and we all know how I feel about that. I am hoping that the sitting wrinkles are something Downy Wrinkle Releaser can take care of for me, but it’s looking doubtful. It’s cotton, but it thinks it’s linen.

March 17

These are both really nice necklaces, but not what I really wanted to wear. I wanted to wear my Isabella Wolf Fang Necklace and my Dharma Wheel. But I also don’t want to be pinched by aforementioned zealots.

*OK, maybe it's not fair to assault people for that either. But being told what to wear makes me super cranky. And I think “Stay Fabulous or Get Slapped Friday” might be a holiday we should seriously consider. We can keep the slapping light.

I have that dress too! I can imagine wearing it a ton this spring/summer/fall. :)

I'm all in favor of Stay Fabulous or Get Slapped Friday. Maybe you need a to promote it with one of those silly facebook groups?

I'm totally for the Get Slapped Day- esp. since I'm in college. That would make my day much brighter!

First of all, I love this outfit and now I'll probably die if I don't find some kind of chambray garment to copy you with.

Second, I laughed my ass off at the image of you running around your office slapping people in the face.

That is all.

HAH! I am all in favor of Stay Fabulous or Get Slapped Friday. What a holiday that would be!

And I can see that dress getting tons of use. Looking forward to the summer remixes.

That dress is great with the studded belt--very rockabilly (and I mean that as a compliment).

This is fabulous! I love the dress - I could see it working in so many ways this spring and summer! I'm with you on the St Patrick's Day thing - it seems like an excuse for douchebags to get drunk more than an Irish pride thing nowdays... I did not wear green at all and if I get pinched I WILL slap someone, just for you!

P.S. my captcha word is "mancart", which is a hilarious concept!

"Stay Fabulous or Get Slapped Friday" reminds me oh-so-much of Slapsgiving from the show How I Met Your Mother.
if you dont watch the show, here's the synopsis of Slapsgiving:

I love this combo! The dress screams Donna Reed, you almost need an apron. But the jacket and the boots are rock & roll all the way!

That dress is adorable! And I will gladly slap non-fabulous people EVERY Friday! Clearly you have nothing to fear from THAT holiday.

I really love this dress. I think it is one of my favourites and you have some killer dresses to choose from girl!
Your styling is spot on too. This dress could be way too pretty pretty but you've really made it you...

Ah, the whole pinching thing is just an American thing! Took me quite by surprise when I moved to the USA and had that sort of thing happen...

I like the idea of changing up everything with a studded belt and biker jacket! :)

I never heard of Pinching on St. Paddy's Day in South Florida. Not until I moved to SC.

That is a really cute dress, and I hate to break it to you, since you're already bummed about getting told what to wear, but I really don't think jewelry counts. Heh.

Dude I LOVE THIS ON YOU. I swore a little.

“Stay Fabulous or Get Slapped Friday” HAHAHAHAHAHAHA that is hysterical

I actually hadn't even heard of the pinching tradition until this year. Thankfully I've never encountered that. But after I heard someone say something about it, all I can think is that if someone did pinch me, I would have to punch them. I like my personal space thankyouverymuch.

Oh - and that dress is AWESOME on you!

^^ I'm so glad someone besides me hasn't heard of the pinching thing. I think I heard of it for the first time, like, yesterday.

I do always wear green on St. Patty's Day because it's my birthday and tons of nutcases are always looking for an excuse to pinch me in addition to giving me b-day spankings. I would get behind "Stay Fabulous or Get Slapped Friday" in a heartbeat!

“Stay Fabulous or Get Slapped Friday”

YES PLEASE.

I never wear green on St. Patty's Day and I'm partially Irish.

I'm also hoping my trip from midtown back to Brooklyn is not filled with douches since I'll be returning home around the time the first round of might day-drinkers starts to fall.

Ooooh, I like that dress shape on you! The studded belt absolutely keeps it from looking too country. LOL!

Love this outfit SO MUCH! I think it's one of your best so far. Also, I'm seriously coveting that dress right now! I've been looking for one like that. I'll be taking a trip to Wal-mart this weekend.

Ooh, I love this idea - I'm in! Post a reminder next Thursday or I'll forget (I'm old and crotchety about these things).

I also love this dress. Throw a crinoline or bigass pouffy skirt under it and unbutton the bottom of it so it shows!

Jodie said...

I notice that dress has cuffed sleeves - if you have other shirts and dresses with shirts that need to be recuffed after washing do you always recuff - if so how?! It's driving me insane trying to recuff things, no shirt is the same. Or do you wear them another way?

love your dress! and the hints of green :)

I love how you styled this. I just bought a similar dress at Forever 21 and have been looking for different ways to wear it. Last weekend I wore it with an enameled yellow teardrop necklace, silver/gray/black leopard print scarf as a belt and black patent peep-toe wedges - what do you think? Wish I had a pic :)

BTW-Just found your blog, have read and few days and think you are great! I love your outfits!

That dress is sure to get a lot of wear year round! I love it and it looks great on you!

Amen, Sister ! I don't do any traditional "holiday" color except on Halloween - THE Holiday of all Holidays! Your style is terrific!

I love this whole outfit! I would never have thought to put a black studded belt with this awesome dress, but I totally love the look! So much so, that I think I'm going to have to copy it. I'd probably wear it on Stay Fabulous or Get Slapped Friday... ;)

I HATE being told what to wear, too. A ballroom buddy reminded me to wear green to a St. Pat's-themed social dance event, and it just so happened that I had been planning on wearing my green dance dress. I had made the connection myself. I was horrified at the notion that it might appear that I'd worn the green dress in compliance, so I wore my fire engine red dance dress instead. Excellent decision; I was asked to dance by so many different men that I barely had a chance to sit down.
