Could You Hold Me Tighter, When Worlds Collide

Nathan and I went to a birthday party for a friend on Saturday and Nathan got dressed up. I did not. The dress code was as follows:

“Just dress cool. You are a grown up, it's a party and your photograph will be taken. You'll want to make sure everyone who sees your picture realizes what a fun and interesting life you lead ... so just wear that outfit.”

That is maybe the most awesome and open ended dress code I have ever seen. So I went casual. Nathan went fancy. And he looked amazing.

He graciously posed for the adorable photos for me.

He was hands down, the best dressed guy there, no vote necessary.

I on the other hand, wore this…

January 8 (weekend)

Which was not fancy at all, but which is actually pretty typical for me as far as weekends go.

January 8 (weekend)

But look! My hair was down. I’m still not a fan. I don’t get the appeal. But Nathan likes it.

On Him:
Blazer: Dior, from Buffalo Exchange
Vest: Standard Cloth, Urban Outfitters
Shirt: Merona, Target
Bow tie: gift from Bill Chandler as part of a tuxedo set he gave Nathan probably 10 years ago that Nathan has cannibalized in a million ways (He has found uses for everything but the cummerbund and the suspenders). It was his choir tuxedo from college (I also think it has been to Prague and back on choir tour, which is farther than I've traveled).
Pants: Gap 1969 corduroy
Shoes: Dr. Martens, thrifted
Hat: Urban Outfitters

On Her:
Sweater, Forever XXI
Tee, Hot Topic
Skirt, Target
Tights, Target
Boots, Aldo (I totally changed into the flat Docs before we left, chickened out of the pain. And I was glad I did. The venue was gorgeous, but all hard wood floors and almost no seating. I did not regret those flat boots one little bit.)
Bag, SR Squared by Sonia Roberts
Necklace, Moon Raven Designs

You see, you say Nathan dressed up (and I must admit, the man has style) and you dressed down, but your outfits - they just work together! You both look "cool" - as the dress code demanded! And the first thing I noticed was your hair down. I like it a lot, but you know I'm a fan of down... you're lucky enough to look just a gorgeous with it up, so I say go with what's comfortable!

Nathan = adorable. I love his purple shirt under the gray vest. It's an interesting pop of color. And Dior at Buffalo Exchange? Now I know where I'm headed today. Both of you look fantastic. Love your hair down!

Well I think you both look great - and your outfits work well together. Nathan is clearly a style blogger at heart - what great poses! He should come back again!

What a stylish couple - you both look fantastic. And I like the hair down!

My NYE party I asked people to dress festive. One person came in a sparkly top, another in a dress (though i know she wears it to work every week). The rest wore jeans, flannels, etc. Your casual weekend is far more fab than my friends' NYE attire, and Nathan is adorable!

You have really nice hair, so I think it looks good down.

Nathan is super stylish.

I totally agree with the comment that your outfits just work together!! Y'all are soooo cute!! :)

And seriously - that dress code might be the most awesome description of a dress code that I have ever heard :)

Nathan looks like a natural at posing. I'm (more than) a little jealous. You both look good and even if you're a little more casual you both have the same vibe going which is cute.

Nathan looks so cool in those photos, and I agree with Caroline - the two of you look so well coordinated. The photo of you with your hair down is really charming, too :)

Love the invite instructions. I asked people to dress up for NYE (their definition of dress-up... just make an effort basically, as I cleaned my house and it deserves more then an old Gap sweatshirt) and some people panicked. I might copy their line...
Anywho, Nathan looks super sharp!

And yes, I am pumped to go to Austin. I had been planning to visit Kendi and now I am going that weekend and I didn't even really clue in how many people I will actually meet. Nervous.....

I love when boys dress up! Scott wore a tie with his jeans to my birthday party this weekend, and all night I kept giggling because he looked so good!
I enjoy how your "not an outfit" still looks pulled together!

Nathan looks perfect - I love when my man gets dressed up.

You look nice and comfy - perfectly casual and chic. And may I say, I love the hair down - you look so different.

Oh, and I am totally stealing that dress code for my next party. :)

That is the best dress code ever. And day-um, Nathan cleans up good!

Also, your casual outfit? So good, and so Erin. I would like to grab a pint with you while you are wearing that outfit. Yes? Yes.

i think you both look great. different versions of cool. i don't think there is a better combo for that lacy skirt. perhaps a beatles t-shirt. and that's purely subjective since they are my favorite.
cool is a tough dress code for me. meaning, leave at home the gigantic purse full of snacks and baby wipes? that's step one...

I have that skirt but have not yet worn it because styling it has me stumped. I love the idea of wearing it with a t shirt. Thanks for the inspiration!
