I Wanted to Be With You Alone, And Talk About The Weather

(LOLOLOLOL. You guys, you deserve so much better than this. I know. These pictures are just terrible. Also? I was totally wearing my old glasses, which I wear around the house to keep my new glasses, well, new, and I totally forgot. I noticed it while I was sitting in the car waiting for it to warm up. So I ran in and switched, but it was too late for new pictures. Which is a SHAME because I feel like new glasses go so much better with this than old glasses. So for those of you who got all excited hoping I was going back to them…sorry. I am not.)

I got a few comments about the layering cardigan. YES. Layer those cardigans. The thing about most of these newfangled over-sized sweaters is that that are too big to go under a jacket, and too open of a weave to keep you warm. Enter the layering cardigan. Mine is American Apparel and I have been using them this way for a couple of years. They are expensive. I won’t even pretend. But they are also really well made and the perfect weight for year round. As a layer in colder moths and alone in the warmer months. They are great cardigans for tossing in your bag in Summer, for when you get where you are going and they are getting all crazy with the AC up in there.

And when you wear them as a layer, it’s up to you how to go about de-layering during the day. Some days I wear the AA cardigan as my office cardigan, and some days I wear whatever comfy sweater I’ve thrown on top of it.

1.4.11

Either way, the layering is a win/win situation. Warm enough outside, options inside.

I maybe ought to be offended about what those big ole pockets appear to be doing to my hips, but I don’t e’en curr. This cardigan is so comfy. And I love the shorter sleeve.

I suspect this dress will join it’s friend the Old Navy Denim Skirt in the "dead to me for 6 months" pile come Spring. It’s too short without leggings. But it sure is cute with!

*ETA* for those interested THIS is the cardigan I use as my under layer.

Cardigan, Urban Outfitters
Layering cardigan, American Apparel
Dress and leggings, Target
Black leather studded bottom bag, LUSH
Boots, Doc Martins

ok, I love you so much right now for saying curr. I thought only me and my husband talked like there.

Definitely planning on investing on layering cardigans. I also need some more big cardigans for the outer layer.

I was just in American Apparel yesterday coveting their oversized cardigans. I walked out only with a couple of pairs of tights, but you've convinced me to go back and take another look. That sweater looks so warm and cozy (and I heard it's gonna get hella cold here in Dallas next week.)

OH MY GAH THAT BAG. So much love. WAOW. <3

Also, I can't picture the AA cardigan... is it the kind that ties in the front & is like a wrap? Or maybe I'm confusing that with Alternative Apparel.

I hadn't noticed that the big fluffy cardigan might not be so flattering to your hips until you said something. I don't think it matters--it's so awesome!

I actually really like this outside! The brown/olive/black is great, and it looks like a perfect cozy outfit for running errands. I like that your outfits are 'accessible'-- not dependent on trends or price. It's great!

I must have missed the cardigan layering discussion. I'm a fan of the look, but I often forget about the option of layering light-weight/open-weave cardis for the cold.

I did it once...

I'll try not to forget, again!

I loveloveLOVE this dress, especially how you paired it with all black! I wonder how it'd look with a pop of bright color?

I enjoy the layered cardigan look! Love the bag here - are those studs on the bottom?! I too have a number of dresses that are only doable with leggings in the colder months! Rock 'em while you can!

I'm so glad to see that you bought that bag from a real store because if you would have written that Nathan thrifted that gorgeous Alexander Wang-esque bag I would have fainted!!

Love the cardigan too!

I love the top cardigan, have a similar in taupe and almost didn't buy it but now wish I bought it in every color I could find! You look adorable!

The studs on the bottom of your bag are amazing.

I've never tried layering cardigans. It is too cold here to go without a coat, but I'm going to keep this in mind for spring.

Yes, layering cardigans is the best! I do that too when it gets above 37 (which I think of as pretty warm, as I used to live where Rebecca lives and I thought above zero was warm enough for running).
I dig the simple neutral palette.

Wait - are those gold studs on the bottom of your bag? That is fabulous! And it would be ideal on our slushy floors in restaurants and classrooms in Cold Canada! Now if only I had a bad that could use some bling!!

I need to try the layering cardigans - you make it look sooo easy!! I was thisclose to buying a super-comfy black cardi at TJMaxx last night b/c of how much I loved yours :)!

Love the neutral palette going on here and the mixture of feminine/toughness that you do so well!! (AND that bag...Ah-Ma-Zing) :)

great look, i love the utility details on the dress and the nubby knit stripes on the oversized cardi together....really makes neutrals interesting!

i layer cardis all the time - i have a black cashmere one with mondo elbow holes (and mini holes here and there). i wear it under all type of jackets ane other cardis for warmth/touch of black.

but then i layer my knickers, and will wear a pushup bra under a shlf-bra cami. socks over tites, tites over leggings.... just pro-layering in general.

GO LAYERS!!! WOO HOO!!! happy new year! steph

DO NOT bring that bag down here to Austin when you come for the conference because I will steal it and you will never ever see it again except for in photos on my blog!

There are lots of reasons why I love reading your posts. Your 'tude is on the top of that list.

This outfit? SO GOOD. And I am, without a doubt, gonna do up some layering cardigans pretty soon. Love that idea!
