Cause You Were Only Wanting to be Friends

Saturday we met Tina and Rand for brunch. Or breakfast, really. I don’t know. At what point does it become Brunch? We ate at like 10. And I had oatmeal. To me that’s breakfast, but it sounds more like an event if I call it Brunch.

So let’s just say we had Brunch.

Feb 13

I decided to put on pants since I’d been wearing those shorts for 2 days*. And by pants I means nicer leggings. Or jeggings. (I can’t decide if I like that word or not.) And that’s the other new tee from Urban Outfitters. It is SO SOFT. And I’m normally not a blue with blue jeans kind of girl, but these were different enough I felt good about the pairing.

Feb 13

We had a great time at Brunch. Tina and I had hung out but we had never really all huing out together, so there is always that small chance that not everyone will get along, but we did. I really hope we get together again soon!

After Bruch I asked Tina if she minded taking a few casual wear pictures with me and she agreed. The pictures that came out of that session are some of my favorite pictures of ever. They are adorable. Nathan said a couple of funny things** and started clicking, and the rest was history…

I just love those.

*Do you ever see the shorts/tights (or leggings) combo in real life? I hadn’t thought about it, but I can’t recall ever seeing anyone in Dallas who isn’t me doing that. Is it a fashion blog thing? I just thought it was a normal sort of tending thing that was happening, but then my views on what’s trendy are sharply skewed by all the personal fashion blogs I read…

** ETA So we were standing there, thinking about posing and I think we did a few shots, just straight forward, smiling, whatever, and then Nathan said "Don't you want to do your SASSY? Do your Sassy!" ("Sassy" is what Nathan calls the classic hand on hip pose.) I don't know why, but it KILLED me. And if I recall correctly, Tina is basically just amused at what a dork I am, because she is classy lady.

Sweater, Thrifted, vintage
Tee, Urban Outfitters
Jeggings, ANA at JCPenny
Boots, GAP kids
Gloves, Target
Bag, Dooney and Burke, Thrifted

jeggings is a nasty word, I have to admit, but they definately look good on you, whatever they are. Denim leggings maybe? Everyone uses the term and I cringe. Very adorable pics.

(I'm new around here, Hi!)

Just have to say that I am utterly jealous of your thrifted Dooney bag! Looks great! I love your style.

I prefer "denim leggings" over "jeggings," personally. :)

Love the outfit, cozy and chic!

I feel like I have seen the short + tights/leggings combination in real life here in Boston, but now I'm wondering if I'm making it up.

I love this outfit. it has some great pieces and looks really classic.
Ok, I'm dying to know why you guys are killing yourselves? What did you say?

Oh I LOVE these pics!
I was feeling a bit down and they have cheered me up!
I'm not keen on the word jeggins but it's kinda irrelevant to me cause my thighs are just not jeggins kind of thighs...

Great pics! LOL..and I will have to call your event "brunch" also. Sounds alot more fancy than oatmeal breakfast.

Gap Kids boots? Fab! I love the cardigan, so casual but chic and that bag is amazing!

Now that I think about it, I've never seen anyone rocking tights/shorts in person, but I do it all the time... I guess I never really thought about the fact it might be a fashion blog only thing! The rest of the world will catch up in a year or two!

You two are ridiculously adorable together.

Honestly the last time I remember seeing people wear shorts + tights in the offline world was my 7th grade English teacher. I don't know if I've seen it on anyone besides bloggers and models.

I do that too - see trends "everywhere" then not be able to remember if it's really everywhere, or just everywhere online.

Giggles make for the BEST pictures.

I see the shorts/leggings thing all the time at school (in San Francisco). Often with a tshirt or hoodie, long scarf, and knit hat.

I love your outfit. I have been wanting gloves for ages now and I still have not got any that are not specifically aimed at winter.

I've been doing the shorts w/leggings thing for years. In fact winter is the only time I really wear shorts and it's in this combination.
It's awesome because all of the summer shorts are on sale at that time of year.
GOLD MINE!

I have worn the shorts over thermal for years and when heavy footless tights rolled around about 4-5 yrs. ago I was elated! I like to go geocaching with my hubs and have always done the shorts over some type of leg covering. I do hate picking the "hitch-hikers"off my legs, but (it's so easy to rip off shorts in the woods and loose my leggings), so the transition was easy for me, though as a woman of a certain "age" i sometimes wonder what others think, but then I just smile and keep on trucking!!! Age is all in the mind anyway ! I have followed your style on weardrobe and will be following you here now!! retro reva

p.s. where did you get your blog layout ? I love the header !!!!

Yay for pictures of us being cute dorks! I am jealous that you look good while laughing like that. I look like Squinty McGee! But that's okay b/c pics where everyone is genuinely having a good time are always the best!!

We had fun at brunch too. Although I agree it was really more of a breakfast. However, my cut-off is 10. Anything before that - breakfast. Anything after that - brunch.

Thanks for sharing the photos!

I really love your dooney + bourke bag, nice find!

P.S. I havent seen anyone doing the shorts + leggins combo in Chicago either, I'm also convinced its a runway and fashion blog thing.

Shorts and tights has been big in the UK for ages. It started as a club wear thing, with linen shorts and heels. Got kind of swept away by leggings all the time though. I like your casual wear approach to shorts much better than shorts as club wear.

Yup, you two are freakin adorable!!! I love those pictures!

You two look like you had a great time! What fun to meet up with a fellow blogger. Have a great day!

With you on the shorts and tights! I saw it on blogs but had never tried it myself until I went to Shanghai this fall, and every other girl had shorts and tights on. It grew on me, and now I wear the combo all the time. It's like a miniskirt but, at least with wool shorts, more work appropriate (on no-meetings days, anyway).

I Australia shorts and leggings or tights are a big thing. Not everyone call pull it off. You do, you look amazing and lovely. Jeggings, jeans leggings, denim leggings...I personally don't care what people call them. They look good and feel good and I love wearing them. It's just a word but a wonderful invention.

Annie said...

Sorry, I should proof read. Apologies for horrendous typos. That should read "In Aust..." and "...CAN pull it off."
Apologies.

It's so funny that you asked, "Do you ever see the shorts/tights (or leggings) combo in real life?" I was just thinking today about things I see on blogs - and even emulate - that I never actually see when I'm out-and-about. For example NO ONE I know IRL "layers" as much as we fashion bloggers do, lol. But I'm perfectly OK with that! We're probably supposed to be a little ahead, right? :)
