You'll Never Gain Weight From A Donut Hole

Hey you know what? It’s the second day of Valentines! Yesterday was the first. The Seven Days of Valentines* is my favorite holiday. Its seven days of gifts and seven days of poems written about those gifts. The poems are basically hints as to what the gift is, and I get them first, and then the gift. Basically its a week long celebration of me. Or rather, Nathan’s love for me. I believe it is in it’s *ponders, does maths* 14th year? Possibly 13th. I can’t be sure really, I’m no good at maths. The Seven Days of Valentines puts me in a good mood. Yesterday I got a candle and today I got a paperback copy of “Sex, Drugs and Cocoa Puffs” .

In other news…I wore all black yesterday and am wearing it today as well. (I overslept by almost an HOUR yesterday). I am kind of a fan of all black, to be honest. I enjoy a splash of color as much as the next girl, but there is something to be said for the simplicity and sophistication of all black as long as it’s not the ONLY thing you ever wear (and even then, if that’s your thing and you keep it interesting, go you).

You know, those gloves are sure handy. I got them because this Bona Drag jacket is pretty much not an option during the winter without them, since the crop sleeves mean I’d get frostbite on my arms on days like today. I really prefer to wear this jacket instead of the other one when I’m going for a more “dressy” look, since it’s fitted and fit can be everything in a garment. (I totally understand one might find the concept of a “dress” biker jacket and a “casual” biker jacket amusing, I mean, I kind of find it amusing myself.)

Look. A trouser fit pant. It’s like an endangered species in my wardrobe. I have, well, just these basically. I do like the fit on these and they are comfortable. I'm just not a trouser fit girl at heart.

That bag is one of the last leather bags I ever saw at Express. It was a gift with purchase, or maybe a purchase with purchase? I think you had to spend $50 and then it was $25? I don’t remember, it was a long time ago, but I do remember that my boss at the time and I went down to the mall to get it ASAP when we heard about it!

Old Lady Rant You Have Heard From Me Before: I miss leather bags at affordable rates in normal shops!. I remember not 10 years ago you could get a leather bag at Target for crying out loud, or Express or Rampage. And now everything is pleather. Or “vegan leather”. OK, here’s the thing, kids. There is no such thing as “vegan leather". It’s either leather or it’s vegan. Ok?

I got those feathers from the final sale section of the website when I bought them and I think I bought every last one they had. I wish there had been more. I think I managed to make one pair to sell? And I had a couple of the amber and ivory colored ones too. They were really nice and I am forever on the prowl for a similar and similarly priced component.

*We know they did something similar on the Simpsons one year, but we looked at the date at the end of the episode and it’s from a couple years AFTER Nathan started it, so THERE.

Jacket, Bona Drag, customized by me
Blouse, Wal-Mart
Pants, Wal-Mart
Boots, Arturo Chiang
Leather gloves, Target
Earrings, self made
Bag, Express

This is a fantastic all-black look! The leather jacket sets off the girliness of the polka-dot blouse. Very cute!

Oh I must have the polka dot top!!! It is fantastic.

You look great, I absolutely LOVE that blouse! I can't say I've ever found anything good at Walmart, I don't know how you do it.

I adore you for delineating dressy and casual biker jackets. Also adore that bow blouse.

Amen to the leather bag rant!

I am a huge fan of all black, and I think you always do it in an interesting way!

I agree with you about "vegan leather"... it always bothers me when they call it that. Leather=leather, period.

You look awesome in all black (I, on the other hand, do not). I love your polka dot blouse and what a fun Valentine's week! The boy and I are soooo not romantic and don't do anything... perhaps we should try!

Love that blouse! :)

I also hate the term "vegan leather" but from the other side of the coin. If it's vegan, just tell me it is so I know I can buy it. "Vegan leather" is just confusing and I avoid leather for a *reason* - no need to combine the two words!

I think they try to use it so they can emphasize it's sturdier than plain vinyl or pleather, because there is also some gross cheap-ass pleather out there (one of the many reasons I don't buy bags at Target anymore).

1. totally hear you on the pleather or leather thing. it is or it isn't. Simple as that.
2. your 7 days of Valentines sounds awesome.
3. you look very wickedly chic in your all black ensemble.

I love this outfit. You make all black look very interesting. I especially like the gloves with the moto jacket.

I love all-black (although lately I've been veering towards navy instead, purely because it's a bit kinder to my super-plae complexion), but this outfit is particularly fab because of the polka dots, which I'm ever so slightly obsessed with at the moment. Love it :)

Fantastic blouse.
And fantastic book choice. Chuck Klosterman is awesome.

This is a great outfit on you! I really love the trousers and the fitted jacket, then the pop of polka dots.

How sweet that you get a week of V-day. :)

I love that top! You look so cute. And keep strong on your shopping ban -- you're a better woman than me. I think the longest I ever went was 25 days.

I love the ruffles paired under the moto jacket! Especially in the monochromatic shade. It has that edgy retro vibe - love it!

Oh, I LOVE that ruffly blouse! Such a perfectly put-together outfit.

I love your top -- this is such a great outfit. One of the hardest things for me is pulling off monochromatic looks, but you do this here beautifully and with so many interesting details :)

Love that outfit, and love the title of this post. Great song. :)

I love this look on you. The blouse and the jacket are both great, and the pants are a change from your usual look. The way you dressed these pants, you took them from basic (sometimes bland) office-wear to very, very sophisticated, by keeping the look interesting with the fun polka-dot top and the edgy (expensive-looking) biker jacket.

The seven days of Valentine's is so cute. [insert sappy face here]

Sex, Drugs and Cocas Puffs is a great read. It prompted me to read Fargo Rock City (good, but not as good) and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (great book, lumped with S, D & CP b/c the same person recommended both to me).

One of my all time fav. Tori Amos songs! Sometimes it's painful to listen to though don't you think? Or maybe that's just a personal thing...

I'm totally loving this outfit but then i am often in all black. It's my comfort zone...

p.s. am making my husband read about the seven valentines as soon as he gets home!
