Maxi dresses confuse me. It’s summer. It’s hot. And they are long. And cover a lot of leg. Which seems like it would just make you hotter. On the other hand, it’s summer, and we all know how I feel about shaving my legs. I think for the most part, I’m not into long dresses because they hide my legs. And I like my legs, so I prefer to show them off, but as I get older I prefer to show them off and cover them at the same time, like with tights pants, leggings or tights.
So maxi dresses confuse me a bit, but I own…off the top of my head…at least 4.
And this is one of them.
When I bought it, I fully intended to have it altered to just above the knee, and I might still. My husband likes it long, my co-worker voted for short. What do you think? I think it looked lovely long, but I might wear it more often short.
It hides my adorable wedges from Old Navy, which is kind of a sin, if you ask me…
I pulled an old photo of them as I forgot to get a detail shot.
They are made out of the softest tee shirt fabric imaginable. I wore them from 8 AM until 11 PM yesterday and was only uncomfortable at about the 10:30 PM mark, which for heels that high, is impressive. The foot bed is super cushioned and the platform and angle on the heel gives the illusion of much more height to the heel than there actually is.
I made that bullet necklace this weekend. I was getting gum and Red Bull at a gas station on my way to Lara's house for her husband's birthday party (he had a video DJ set up, it was super fun)and they were selling these bullets on key chains for cheap, and I thought it would be awesome on a chain. Now I want to get back up there and buy several more to make for the shop. I just love it! And I could sell them for as little as $15 bucks and still make a little money on them. I love when I can do something really cool for the shop (and me!) for cheap.

Lovely dress I like it long ... but then again I can't tell how it would be short haha!
The shoes are a delight!!
I love the bullet necklace. How apropos for Texas.
I don't own any maxi dresses and only a few long skirts. I like to show off my legs too much. But I do like the illusion of height when they are long enough to cover your high heels.
I'm normally anti-maxidress, but lady, this one looks AMAZING on you. I say keep it long. I'd be willing to bet you have at least one or two short dresses lying around. ;)
Tina need bullet necklace! (said in scary stupid monster walking towards you too slowly to really be a threat voice)
As far as the length of the dress goes, I would say that it's nice to have variety in your closet. I would consider keeping it long for the season since maxi dresses are "in" and the repurposing it next season into a short dress. You'll enjoy the trend this season and feel like you have a whole new article of clothing afterwards. Just a thought....
And the shoes ARE fab.
More bullets coming your way, kid!
And I really like that dress on you! I don't really understand the maxi dress for summer wear either, but it works perfectly for spring, before it gets ridiculous hot...
yes, I totally agree with you... long dresses and skirts are confusing me aswell. but i decided to show my legs until they will turn unhandsome... So I gave my long skirt to a vintageshop some days ago.
But you look great.XX
I love that dress long. It looks great and adds a little variety since normally you are all about the leg. That's my opinion but I live in (colder) Colorado so take that for what it's worth!
Where do you find all these great things to make jewelry with?! That's awesome (and so "you" - edgy but cute)!
XOXO
love it long. i'm not a huge fan of the maxi but you've got great height and can pull it off so go for it. wear the super cute shoes with something else
I love a maxi dress, they're just so breezy in the summer! Leave it long unless you know you'll never wear it, then hack it off!
Just a thought, if you do decide to go short, pin it first and take a photo. I think you are going to lose alot of the beautiful print on it if you cut it short - it looks like you might cut out most of the purple - and without that large flower right in the area you'd cut, the print might not make sense anymore to the eye.
I do think its really cute long anyway. :-)
I love the maxi dress as it makes you look about 10 feet tall, but I can also see how it would look snazzy short. I think that's a win-win.
I'm really looking to get a maxi dress for the summer as they look so floaty and comfortable but I've no idea if I can ~werk it~.
I love the bullet necklace so if you do some around the time of me having some money and the exchange rate not being too bad, I'd definitely get one.
I am too short for maxi dresses but you have the legs so work it, sister!
Hmm, that's a good question... I've been frustrated by the whole maxi dress trend lately, for just the reasons you mentioned. I only own one, and I bought it for the express purpose of shortening it, but it's still hanging in my closet.
I have to say though, I think this one looks quite lovely on you at its current length. I think I might be sad to see the big flower print chopped-up or chopped-off, depending on how much shortening you have in mind.
Will be a shame to cut off that lovely pattern, if you want to show off the shoes, you might consider bringing it up 2", you can always take it down again.
Keep it long for now that it is a trend. Then when the trend passes you can shorten it. I haven't bought a maxi yet. I'm still looking.
