The State Fair

We go to The State Fair every year. It’s always hard to dress for because it’s in October and the days start and finish cold, but hit right about scorching in the middle sometimes. Layers are a must.

This year I went with a casual dress, leggings, a knit jacket and of course, cowboy boots. It’s the TEXAS State Fair, after all.

Outfit 2

This outfit served me well. We had a long day of fun, shows and FOOD.
We ate and drank:

Fried Butter (balls of butter frozen, wrapped in dough and deep fried)

Cotton Candy

2 very large plastic cups of boxed White Zinfandel. (Because we like to keep it classy.)

Diet Coke

Pork Chips (I ate these solo; thin sliced pork, battered in peppered corn meal and deep friend, served with mustard. These were my favorite of the day)

2 Large Iced SWEET teas

Green Goblins (Cherry Peppers, stuffed with Spicy Chicken and guacamole, battered, deep fried and covered in queso. SO GOOD)

Green Goblins

Nathan Goblin 2

Fired Texas Pecan Pie

Honey Sticks

And I think that covers it.

People approach The Fair in all different ways. Some people are there for the food only. Some the rides, the games, or the art. Nathan and I concentrate on the shows, and we saw several:

Pirates (Comedic High Dive Dare devil troupe)

The Dog Show (Frisbee acrobatics, diving and races)

African Acrobats

The BMX Stunt Show

The Car Show

MUSIC SEEN: ROCK 'N' ROLL PHOTOJOURNALISTS (Featuring Rock and Roll: Lynn Goldsmith And It’s Always Rock and Roll: The Work of Photojournalist Janet Macoska)

The Butterfly Gardens

Butterfly open

Butterfly Closed

The Parade

The Light Show

We had a great time and were so glad to get home to the comfort of our bed and our electric blanket after the cold we endured for the Parade and Light Show, but it was worth it. We can’t wait til next year!

God, I love the fair. I've never been to our state fair, so huge and overblown and far from us, but our county fair is just so fun. I'm also all about the shows... but the food and the vegetable competition also hold a special place in my heart.

That gray jacket is fab.

Sounds like a great way to spend the day! The ffod sounds interesting...I've always wanted to go south just to taste the food. I don't think anything on your list is remotely available in WA state.

I put that moto jacket on my forever 21 wish list to find it sold out 3 days later.:0( How it the quality and sizing. I have to order it online.

I am always so jealous when I hear about what fun the Texas State Fair is!! I am dying to go someday. You seem to have the perfect balance of food/fun/drink/craziness to make for a perfect day there!

Have we seen that dress before on here? I don't recognize it! My grey jacket is on the way... I can't wait! The black one is nice but the grey is slightly better.

So glad you had a fun day! XOXO

HAHA, what is your husband looking at?
So after the fair do they give you a heart monitor after your leaving, or do they just have a resessitation station (poet I know it) so that they can deal with you there after your heart attack? LOL....the food made me drool and feel sick all at the same time, I would have had to wear my super stretchy pants (or my sister's maternity wear..whatever).

Love your outfit too.

Wow... fried butter. That says it all right there! And I thought fried Oreos took the cake. The pig stuff and cherry pepper look so good!

I am so jealous! I love the Texas State Fair so much, and I haven't been back since moving to Nashville SEVEN years ago. That is too damn long.

Perfect outfit for the fair!

Seriously, fried butter? Wow.

I have yet to over-indulge in the fried food offerings at the CA State Fair. The one and only time I was there, it was to only see The Go-Go's.

Paula Deen had deep-fried butter balls that were breaded. It's crazy how people will think of things to deep fry. Have you ever heard of fried Coke? Random!

You look sooooo adorable in your fair-going outfit! I want that jacket! I love how you rock that Tokidoki bag!

Kiki, I am a size 6, and in these pics I am wearing a Large. I find that the Large is good for layering over a hoodie or a sweater. I also have this jacket in a medium (long story) and I find that one better for using as a blazer substitute or top. I think that it’s pretty well made, and at 15.50, it’s a great deal.

Alannah, I’ve worn it before, but it’s been a while. I think since I was at Voyager maybe!~ It’s a winter dress. I normally wear it with tights and knee socks.

Linda, I don’t know, girl. We took 3 pics and the one where he was looking away was the one he liked. I don’t pretend to understand him.

Leina, Fired Coke is kind of like a coke flavored hush puppy. I was not a fan!

Fried butter... that's new to me and actually sounds very enticing. Probably great comfort food for a woman 4-7 days a month...
Anywho, glad you had fun at the fair and I'll let you get back to unclogging your arteries...
ok, now I'm hungry...

What am I thinking?! I have never been to the state fair in Texas, and I now demand that something be done about it next year. I'm having a talk with Hubs when he gets home!

FRIED BUTTER?! I saw that in a news cast once, I it needs to be in my stomach like NOW.

I can't believe you wore boots to the fair. I must admit that I throw all fashion out when I go. It's tennis shoes for comfortable feet for me.

I have heard the rumors of fried butter and I'm so glad you proved them to be TRUE!
I'm bummed because I missed the Arkansas State Fair this year, but sounds like the Texas one is way better!

Okay, I shall pass on the fried coke!

I was born in TX and went to college in TX and can't wait to go back to TX. I am so jealous of the various healthy treats that you guys indulged in, especially the --- everything!. BTW when we go to the fair we really do only go for the food. We plan our agenda like "1st Turkey legs, then funnel cake, then giant onion burgers, then fried twinkies with icecream", you know.
