Get Out Of My Dreams, Get Into My Car

But not really. I sort of hate when it’s my turn to drive. I like to drive myself to work but only because I like to be able to leave when I need to. I hate driving. I find each and every turn behind the wheel for me is an exercise in pure white knuckled horror. I’m hoping to grow out of it someday but you know, I’m 34. So it’s not looking good. But you know what makes it a little better?

A new car.

(all photos this post by Jessica Guest)

That’s right. After 12 months (Ok, maybe 11 and a half) of not having a car, I have gone out and purchased myself a brand new car. It’s my first ever brand new car, and I chose it and bought it all on my own. It is ADORABLE.

It’s a Hyundai Accent hatchback. I actually got kind of an obscenely good deal on it and in true finance guy fashion, the guy at the dealership tried to trick me into spending $4000 more than we agreed to in extra warranties and features. I said no. Several times.

He got rude.
I told him he was being very aggressive and I didn’t appreciate it.
He said he was supposed to get off two hours ago to be with his kids.
I said I didn’t HAVE to buy the car from him.
He said he HAD to have that warranty on there for the finance department to approve it.
I threatened to pay cash (I have never seen such horror in a man’s eyes as when I did that. It was crazy).

After that I pretty much got what I wanted. PLUS a massive feeling of accomplishment knowing I beat a MASTER at his own game. I have patted myself on the back a few times since then.

And I did it again just now.

Look how perfectly we go together.

I love this car.*

*I know. You can see my pettipants. But look at it this way, at least I am wearing the proper undergarments, you know?

Hooded knit jacket, Target
Tunic, mark
tights, Target
boots, Doc Martins

So cute! Congratulations. :-) You two make a cute couple.

Buying a brand new car AND nipping haggling sales guys in the bud is the best feeling. I am still in love with my new Honda!

Congratulations. Buying a car and dealing with sales people is so tough, and I'm impressed that you stayed strong and got what you wanted.

I don't know which I love more, the car or those fantastic Docs!

Well done standing up for yourself.

Congrats on your new auto-mo-bile.

Cute car, cute outfit, oh and a beautiful day to take photos.

Enjoy!

I love my new car everyday, especially since the sunroof doesn't leak like my last car.

I am super impressed with your handling of that aggressive salesman.

Congrats on your adorable car!

i feel the EXACT same way about driving. I really do. I avoid it whenever possible (that's why I bike :-D), and if I absolutely have to go somewhere by car, then I usually beg my husband to drive me. And when I'm actually the one driving? Well, I've been told that I'd lose a race to a little old lady :-P

Your new car is supercute, though! And if it makes you feel better about driving, then more power to ya :-) Hatchbacks are great, too, because they're so versatile and can hold SO MUCH. Great for antiquing adventures, or road trips :-)

Also, I love your mad negotiation skills. You rock! (It has already been determined that when I need to buy another car (or should I say if?), I - a grown woman - will have to bring my big scary mean dad along to take care of the dirty work. Because I just don't have the cajones.

I'm terrified of having to buy my own car when the time comes. Any tips?

I will have make sure that if I ever buy a car, I will have enough cash in my pocket to pull such a smooth move!

yay!!!! the new car is so freaking adorable and I am soooo happy for you :) and the pic of you with your pettipants showing is probably the cutest thing I've ever seen.

Chelsea said...

duh! I forgot to mention how freaking inspiring you are for negotiating the price with that a-hole. seriously... that's like my biggest fear because I know nothing about cars and they can scare me so easily into spending unnecessary moolah. So, thanks for being a role model in that department :)

Pettipants! I think it would be cute to wear them showing on purpose! I am going to have to get some. I had no idea!

I found your blog through Keiko Lynn. I was commenting and saw your comment and saw that you used the word cray cray. I had to come visit :)
Later!

Way to go you!! You are a master negotiator in my book - I would have caved at the "you HAVE to have this warranty in order to purchase the car" thing. So, not only are you super-stylish and smart - you are also negotiating-savvy!! Way to go! And yay for super-cute, new car!!

Congratulations!!! It must feel AWERSOME, I'm so happy for you. What's your car's name??

You are SO cute! Although now I'm slightly annoyed because that song is stuck in my head. But whatever.

Congratulations! You are my new hero! Will you come shopping with me when it's my turn to buy a new car? :)

I'm impressed! I think I would have walked rather than fight it out.

Congratulations! And bravo to you for standing up for yourself. Car salesmen truly earn their bad reps. I bet he didn't even have kids.

So first off can I say daaaamn girl you do not look 34. You sure that wasn't a typo?

Secondly good for you! Buying a car is kind of scary and a big deal. I bought my 2nd (used) car 7 years ago and the finance people tried to do similar stuff until I finally got my damn 4 wheels.

Look atchu! Congrats on your new car!!! It's liberating, ain't it? :)

How exciting! My car got totaled in a hit and run like a year and a half ago but I just keep driving it because I am cool and drive a beater. I've been researching new cars for when the time comes and I LOVE hatchbacks! Yay for you!

Your car is adorable -- congratulations! I love the mustache on the license plate. :-)

Aw, it's so cute, congrats!

I totally know where you're coming from on the driving, too: I'm the same age as you, and have been driving for a long time, but it still absolutely terrifies me: I'm in constant fear of Something Bad happening to me behind the wheel.

Yay for defeating the pushy salesman too: I HATE that!

I love your car too! The way I see it, your car perfectly matches your personality. Yes, it would help if you are the one to choose what car you would want to drive. Anyway, 34 is still young, you can still drive more miles. Just don’t push yourself to the limit. If you think you’re tired and can’t drive, then don’t. Better safe than sorry.

Clint Moore said...

Wow! That’s totally an investment. This car is one of a kind: a safety car that you can always count on. This car includes six airbags and a vehicle stability management system that easily react in just a blink of an eye. This management system provides stability on road surfaces that offer reduced traction. Because of its improved brake performance, it is less prone to accidents.

I agree with Brittanie that your car matches your personality! The car that we drive also reflects a part of us. You’re just 34, looking perfectly fit and healthy, I’m sure, you can still drive very well! Take time to enjoy your new car!
