Who Wants To Come In My Candy Shop?

My new camera arrived and we are slowly getting acquainted. I know most fashion bloggers upgrade from a point and shoot to a DLSR, but I like to do things a little different and downgrade from a DLSR to a point and shoot.

12.14.10

Yesterday I took the day off work to lounge, read and go to a book signing. One of my favorite authors, Richelle Mead was near town, up in Allen and I was super excited to get to see her in person.

12.14.10

I had to carry two bags as no bag could contain both all of the books I wanted signed as well as my everyday things.

Behold: the books I wanted signed:
Books for Richelle Mead signing 12.14.10

That’s the first book from each of the series by her that I read as well as the hardback of the book the actual tour is for. She technically only signs three books person, but my girlfriend only wanted to have two books signed so she carried my fourth through the line for me.

12.14.10

I wore a tee shirt that my BFF Alannah sent me that I got Saturday and have already worn twice. You know how I do.

I also made a necklace for Ms. Mead based on a design that is important to the characters in the Vampire Academy series. Of course I made one for me as well. I really like that it’s subtle but also very specific to the books. I can be a fan-girl without wearing something silly like an “I love Dimitri” necklace, which might be great if I were 15, but is not so cool at 34.

(IDK what I'm doing here but I like my hair cape)

After seeing the pics, I wasn’t super excited by the way the leggings looked and changed into black and white patterned tights.

And to cap things off, a lovely picture of the super friendly and amazing Ms. Mead..

Is she not ADORABLE?

And a slightly horrid picture of me in which Ms Mead is signing my books.

I had a great time with my friends, sitting around talking waiting for the signing to start and Ms. Mead was so friendly and accommodating. She read from the new book, did a Q and A and signed up to three books for around 350 people and she did it all with a smile.

Sweater, Target
Tee, hand me down from Alannah
Shorts, Wal-Mart
Leggings, Target
Boots, Doc Martins
Black leather handbag, Steven
Book bag, gift
Necklace, self made due to extreme nerdiness

I really love how you style that sweater!! It's such a great piece!

And I need to put a book signing on my bucket list - that sounds like something I would absolutely love to go to :)

I love the look of cut-offs in the winter! And your purse with the big old gold details is so cool! I've actually never asked someone for their autograph before!

Adorable casual look, and what a fun experience! Love the tee BTW!

I like the funky casual vibe of your outfit, and I'll have to check out the books too. Isn't great to take a day off and do something fun!?

I love how nonchalantly cool you look. Isn't it just the best meeting favourite authors? I worked in a bookstore for 10 years so I saw many come and go. But the best was when I served Helen Fielding (Bridget Jones) at a pub I worked at n England. I didn't want to intrude on her dinner so I just said "Um, I really love your books!". Should have gotten her to sign something other than the credit card slip!

This looks like such fun! Love your mid-autograph photo.

I love that sweater/cardigan, sugar. I am such a sucker for all the loose cardigans that are out now! I just can't get enough of them. It's like fashion permission to walk around with a little blanket around your shoulders (weird image, I know). Then again, I was a total grunge girl, so the more layers, the better!

Fave authors and book signings are the best and you look great! Glad you had such a fun day!

such a great look. and, as a newbie to your blog, i couldn't agree more with your profile statement. that's the whole premise behind my newbie fashion blog as well--in fact, i'd love it if you came and checked it out. just daily posts featuring what i wore that day that come straight out of my closet. no buying new stuff until i wear everything in there. it's ridiculously liberating, you know?
anyways, yeah. come check it out if you can/want. i'd love to hear your thoughts.

:) You look great! Comfortable doesn't have to be sluggish and you've totally proved that here! I need to take a few lessons!

Also, I'm in dire need of jean cut offs. I am loving them!

Newbie de-lurks! (Is it bad that I originally wrote 'lurker de-newbs? Moving on.) Just wanted to say that I love your blog, and I just now completed reading the ENTIRE THING. Because I'm a completion-ist like that. Seriously. Ask Kasmira - I read her entire backblog, too. And now I sound vaguely stalker-like. Moving on some more!

I love the tights and shorts look. Do you think you'll try it with some of the dressier shorts that are big this season? I'd like to, but I'm a bit nervous.
