Day 18 (30 + 20)

30 Grey watercolor NR dress + 20 high heeled docs =

Day 18 (30 + 20)

If we do 30x30 this time next year, I'll remember to add some open toed shoes. I think this looks adorable with the Docs, but my feet long to be free. I am actively NOT painting my toenails in order to avoid sandals.

Day 18

I am glad it is warm enough to show you the gorgeous flutter sleeves on this dress. This dress which was all $15.00. I got it at Nordstrom Rack, which means it originally sold at Nordstrom(or I assume so anyway, perhaps they have brands that go straight to NR?)and the truth is, while I am happy to have it, and I think it is very pretty, I would not have paid more for it. It's not any more well made than most of the dresses I get at Target. Which is not to imply the dresses I get at Target are not well made. I think a lot of times people assume that discount clothes are not made very well, and that is absolutely true some of the time, but no matter where you are buying, Target, Forever XXI, Saks or Barney's, it's up to you as the consumer to inspect that garment inside and out and determine whether or not the price and the quality are a match for you.

Day 18

Dress, Nordstrom
Boots, Doc Martens

I love the fluttery sleeves and watercolor-like effect of the print. It's very pretty and soft, and I like how you've toughened it up with the boots! Very cool transformation!

I agree with your comments about the dress and Nordstroms...it is a very cute dress, but I have seen just as cute at Target as well! A great buy for $15.00!

I just started reading your blog a couple of weeks ago and I wanted to delurk for a moment to say that I love your style. I have seen a few other bloggers do the 30x30 challenge and what I like about yours is that it seems more accessible to the average person if that makes sense. Anyway I can't wait to see what you come up with next!

I love Nordstrom Rack! But you're absolutely right, you shouldn't be fooled into thinking something is quality because it was once $150 or whatever.

This dress looks amazing on you! I like it with the boots but I can see how you might want some open-toed shoes too. I'm pretty jealous of your weather. :)

You look gorgeous. I still want to see more pics of your birthday dress, though.
And for the record I love your glasses.

I think the dress is really cute, the cut is very flattering. I've found some amazingly well constructed garments in "cheap" places, and really poorly made ones in "expensive" places. You're right that you have to look for yourself and cheap the construction.

Yay to Nordstrom Rack deals! Just bought a dress there for $15 myself, but honestly I doubt it's as cute as yours.

I totally agree with the last commenter - both well and cheaply constructed things can be found in high-end stores. It's so important to take the time and inspect things before buying them, along with trying them on (a process I hate, but is sorely required.)

You look amaze-balls. Just had to say it.

First of all, I love this outfit! You look sex-ay!

And also, I totally agree about what you said about the responsibility of the consumer to inspect the quality of an item and make an informed decision about purchasing something. As far as I'm concerned, if you buy something that is poor quality, it's kind of nobody's fault but your own (with some obvious exceptions). Ya gotta do that research!

love the juxtaposition of the feminine dress with the rugged boots! it looks lovely! i reallly need to get myself a pair of similar boots!

i am so with you on the issue of quality. you can find low quality items at all sorts of stores at all sorts of price points. and the inverse is true as well. i don't think a lot of retail stores are as consistent as a lot of people think they are.

in terms of your dress, i think it's a fantastic $15 find! no matter where it came from, the print and sleeves are amazing!

Okay you just made me feel better about not having painted toes. The other day I was trying on these flats my mother in-law got me at work and I was embarrassed about my toes that I quickly slid the shoe on/off.

Now onto quality of clothing - I agree with you that it's a person's responsibility to inspect. In fact, one of the things I look at too when buying anything is how to take care of it. My wise mother once taught me that even if the garment is dirt cheap is it worth it if you have to get it dry cleaned every week?

Love this dress btw!

YES. I love the fluttery sleeves and the super femme pattern on your dress! But - I cannot write one more word without acknowledging the cuteness that is your dog!!!!! What a sweetie!!!! :D

"it's up to you as the consumer" WORD. I buy a lot of "fast fashion" clothing (read: Target and Forever21) because I can't see paying double or triple those prices for a similar garment that I'll wear the same number of times. That's not to say I don't love a good designer item, but I think it's more about being aware of the choices we make as consumers. Whoa, rambling. Anyways. You look nice- I LOVE a floral, feminine dress with tough Docs. And you do that look, girl. LOVE.

The print and sleeves are so pretty! I'm dying to wear sandals and open toes too (but we just got like a foot and half of snow, so that's not gonna happen for a looong time!)
