Day 3 (26 + 15 + 7 + 21)

Day 3 (26 + 15 + 7 + 21)

I'm wearing black and grey today. I have been wearing so much color and I didn't want you guys to think you had gotten lost. It's still me. I still have a lot of black. (But I'm feeling more like branching out into color lately!)

One of the really sort of random and misguided fears I had about 30x30 was that I would have to remix my clothes in ways that were not very "me". Looking back I can see that that is a super weird thing to think, but I thunk it.

Day 3 (26 + 15 + 7 + 21)

I had to go into work today! Nathan went outside to warm his car up and move it out of the driveway where it sits behind my car. Then I went and sat in my car for like 45 minutes to warm it up and try and defrost the ice off the windows. Nathan had done the "towel across the window" trick the night before the big storm, which normally works wonders, but this time...not so much. The towel was like "Look at me, I am one with the ice. The ice and I are the same." but that was not good for me. So I defrosted the window. For, I'm serious, like 45 minutes. And Nathan attacked the towel-ice-being with an old CD-R. Then I ventured out. Then I hit a couple patches of ice, right near stop lights that were turning red so I HAD to stop, and then I turned around and came home. Nathan managed to get me there...2 hours after my 10 AM call time and 3 hours after we started*(call time makes it sound like I'm in theatre, which I am not, but I do deal with people I am only pretending to like, so at least I;m still using my degree, right?). Then we were dismissed at 3:30. So. Not a long work day but for sure the 3 (me trying, Nathan getting me there Nathan getting me home) most terrifying car rides of all time. OF ALL TIME!!!!

I am SO glad you got there safely. And back home again! And I'm glad that you tweeted when you got there, just like you said you would. :)

This might be one of my very favorite outfits of yours, ever. I love the stripes with the gray jacket and that skirt is fantastic on you! You look hot!

This is my favorite of your looks. The clean lines, the muted pallet. But it still looks like you.
That is a Target jacket? Love it.
Also, maybe I like this outfit because I have the same shirt in my 30. Wear that one a lot of I can steal some outfit ideas.

You look amazing! You're really making me rethink my 30x30 fears!

This is a GREAT outfit! Even though it's mostly blacks and grays, the lighter shades make it very bright and cheerful!

Glad you made it in one piece. The roads are getting worse every day here too.

What an ordeal! Glad you are safe.

And, of course, adore that cropped blazer.

oh i love that so much!!!

You're branching out into color, and I'm increasingly drawn to black and grey. I think the only solution is a wardrobe swap!

And thank goodness you're alright! If it's still icy tomorrow, may I suggest calling in with a cough? Or possibly ebola. Whatever will get you out of work.

What a horrible driving day! And what a totally dishy bag! I'm always in such lust with your purses and bags.

You look adorable! I love the mix of neutrals....and the stripes!

I adore this outfit and that bag is AWESOME!!

Sooo sorry that you had such an ordeal with the ice!! Ice is something that I don't mess around with. Anytime it is freezing rain or sleet here in VA, I am working from home - It is easier to deal with snow than nasty, nasty ice! Glad that you made to and from work in one piece!!

I love that bag! This is a great outfit.

I love a pretty striped top like no other, and Erin this is one pretty striped top! I love the accents of the jacket and scarf. At least you look cute for shorter than average day at work ;)

Your bag..I die. Seriously, I die. It's gorgeous!!! I think I saw it in the Fossil store in Northpark, where I burst into tears of jealously for anyone with the fund to carry it. Turns out that's you. Jealousjealousjealous.

That jacket is super cute and I love a good heather grey but all I can see in this post is THAT BAG! I noticed it yesterday but didn't get that good a look at it! It's fabulous! I just found a vintage brown leather satchel to be my work bag after searching for an affordable one for years! But it's so big I use it for work, now I want a smaller one to be a purse!

Absolutely love this look! What a great bag. And your story of Nathan using a CD to scrape the window cracks me up. My sister (who was raised in the Northeast like me) spent part of her day on Monday texting me all the things her Texan neighbors were using to try to scrape their windshields: hardcover textbooks, kitchen spatulas, oven mitts, even a dustpan. I bet the CD worked better than most of that stuff!

Gah, that sounds AWFUL. We get travel days like that in Minnesota, but... it's Minnesota. We know we're in for it every winter. Texas should not be like the Great Cold North! Stay warm, and I hope you guys defrost soon.

In the mean time, I'm loving your 30x30 looks! Well done :)

I love the bag. And still loving the little pictures above of the different components. I think I commented on that yesterday but I do think it's brilliant. Because it goes from clothes on hangers to an outfit with accessories.

Your story about the sassy towel made me laugh out loud. I scared the baby sleeping in my lap! That's kind of weird way to put it. . .like there's a random baby that just ended up in my lap. It's my baby, I promise.

YIKES - that is not even funny! glad you are safe - stay warm!

I love your look here, it's totally something I would wear, and I'm 23! I can't believe you're almost 35 :o You look my age

I totally would wear this exact outfit. In fact, I have wanted a gray knit blazer for eons, have tried on and ordered many and they all are wrong on me. If I had it, I very well would be wearing a similar outfit today! You look fabulous, and I love a woman who can make a pair of Docs look so professional and stylish!

Glad you're safe - the weather has been INSANE this winter!

I'm so glad you're okay!! That stuff is no fun at all.

Oh, and this: "The towel was like "Look at me, I am one with the ice. The ice and I are the same."" I laughed, out loud, so much at this. Ha!

I have the same fears about my 30x30. That I'll remix them in ways that feel uncomfortable to me in some way.

Vanessa said...

Oh, that bag! I love the light carmel-y color! It's beautiful. And, I like the cropped jacket with the longer striped shirt. Good remixing!

This is such a cute outfit! I'm totally stealing it!
I actually own an ice scraper (weird for a Dallasite, I know) but apparently lack the ability to use one during the last snow/ice storm. So I poured pitchers of cold water on my windshield and scraped like crazy. And then the ice in the alley scared me and I ended up staying home. What a waste.

You look so fab and chic. I love that you are wearing Doc Martens they look absolutely gorg with that outfit. Love the pop of lilac in your scarf as well + your beautiful bag.

Glad to hear that you made it home safely. I have had a few winters where I glided home (in car) from work, not fun. Yikes. Damn snow. ;-) xx veronika

I just wore this jacket today, and I have a striped shirt to pair it with. I may just have to steal this look for my 30 for 30.

I used to hate a short jacket over a long top...and then about four years ago I started loving it! Go figure. Anyway, I love this look.

I'm glad you got to work ok! That's so terrifying! I was reading your tweets yesterday and fretting for you.

And I love how separately these pieces don't look like much, but together they are amazing! I am really loving this outfit!

You look great! And you tried way harder to get to work than I would have. You may need to invest in snow tires for freak storms like this! Keep safe!

I love what you've done with (part of) your 30 items so far! I fear your awesome combo powers.

You look so natural out there in the cold. I really don't know how you do it. I think I am still recovering of my five minutes without a coat.

I can't believe how organized you are!
Amazing.

I love love love love love love love love love this outfit! I saw it just after it was posted, but didn't have time to comment. And with the chaos that had been my these days, I was worried I'd forget about it before I had an opportunity to tell you. However, the outfit is so fabulous, that it was among the first posts I pulled up now that I had the time to comment!

I'm so glad that you still are able to be you with this outfit!
