Terrible Tuesday

I got laid off yesterday. I signed something that said I wouldn’t talk about it. So I won’t. This marks the third time I’ve been laid off in November, right before the holidays.

I’m not sure where to go from here. To be honest, I had come to the realization just last week in a particularly productive therapy session that I did not want to do what I was doing anymore, at least not full time. I wanted to look into working on my jewelry (and maybe painting, and maybe selling vintage clothing) at least 2 days a week. So I can start that NOW rather than later. The etsy shop will be up by the end of next week. Stay tuned. Also, I vow not to spend more than a week in pajamas. I reserve the right to a week. But no more. So I'll get dressed soon, and I'll tell you all about it. This blog has been a real source of joy and pride for me, I am not going to walk away. And who knows, maybe I’ll find that I have more to talk about than just what I am wearing.

I made a couple pairs of earrings this morning. I’m going to be fine. I’m a little lost right now, but I will figure out where I am going. I always do.

Keep your head up, little one!!

you're lucky in some ways because you have amazing talent - that you can actually make money off of. having been just laid off as well i feel your pain and it does suck - but work and i mean traditional work is just a means to an end and you can meet that end with your own talent, awesome - let us know as soon as that etsy store goes up!!

What a great attitude. I'm proud of you, Brave One.

And ps> I LOVE your jewelry. I know you don't like commissioning but I might make you someday. (And pay you for it, obvs.)

I'm so sorry. I hope that this is just another step toward a fabulous future for you. I have been reading your blog for a while... when I lost my job several years ago it turned out to be a great blessing and allowed me to do something I wanted to do all my life - stay home and be a Mom to my 2yo daughter. I am looking forward to seeing where you go from here - with great anticipation!!!

Best of luck. I've been reading your blog for awhile and, like you, find great joy in it! What doesn't kill us makes us stronger, and you will have super human strength! Can't wait to see your new jewelery shop!

Oh hon, my heart goes out to you. How frightening and disheartening. But you are AWESOME for staying strong, and seeing this as a sign: Your path must be meant to change. Good will come of this, even if it takes a week in PJs to figure out how.

I am so sorry to hear your news but I can tell form your post that you are already working the master plan. Coincidentally I am working on a feature for the UK press about opportunities with redundancy!

I am so sorry to read that you were laid off - it is never an easy thing to deal with and add in the fact we are entering the holiday season and it makes it that much worse. I was laid off a couple of years ago and found a much better job with better pay, then in July was told my entire department was being outsourced. Once again I found a job paying even more money. I am sure you will find something soon. Also, I am really glad to read about the Etsy shop being open that much sooner!
You will be in my thoughts!

O.k., that place is going to be a LOT less fun, that's for sure. And right before the holidays...DIRTY.

Let passion be your fuel. Your awesome, unique, fun, quirky, and fantastic. Use it.

That is so horrible! It seems like you have such a passion for fashion... (appreciate the rhyme) as well as for jewelry, that I think you are going to do really well working for yourself.

I will definitely buy some of your jewelry. Your designs are fabulous!

So sorry to hear about the layoff - corporate/business America is taking a horrible downturn but you are a very talented person. Talent like that can not go unrecognized long! We are all rooting for you and I personally can not wait for the Etsy shop to be up & running. Take your little "pj break" but then come back to us refreshed and ready to conquer the world.
BTW - some pjs are quite fashionable too!! Hang in there.

80% of successful new entrepreneurial ventures are started during a recession when people get laid off. I am very sure yours is going to be one of those!
