Come Down Now, They’ll Say...

I promise this is not going to turn into a dream journal, but I actually had pretty much the best dream ever last night. We had watched an episode of “Look Around You” with Edgar Wright* in it, and my reaction had been basically “Oh my gosh! Edgar Wright!!!”. Because, well, I love him, and he doesn’t do a lot of acting. And as a result of that I had a dream that I was at a party, and Simon Pegg and Edgar Wright were there. We got to talking and we decided that we should write a show together, and so we did. It was a comedy show, a bit absurdest, about office and apartment life. It was an excellent show, starring Simon and I. I cannot think of a better dream. I hope I have it again.

And then I woke up, and had a bagel. That was less interesting.

I have had this dress for a very, very long time. I had it when I weighed approximately 50 pounds more than I do now and it fit then and it fits now. I don’t understand how that works other than a great cut and very stretchy fabric. But it does.

I love these colors, and I love them on me.

The shopping ban (January through the end of February) is going pretty well. By which I mean I haven’t’ cheated. (I did try, once at Banana Republic, when they had a gorgeous $250 leather bag with a plastic/resin chain handle on sale for all of $50. But I didn’t.) It's not fun. It's been really hard, and I don't like it. But it's good for me, I know. My concern now is really more for the end of February than anything else. Money is really tight, and the truth is shopping ban or no, I don’t have any to spare. So I’m hoping that come the end, I can still control myself.

I don’t think I would have worn this jacket nearly as often if not for the ban, since jackets are my weakness and I would bet almost anything I’d have another new one by now. So that’s a good thing, getting more use out of what I do have.

I know that bag has nothing to do with the rest of the outfit, but you know what? It had room for my lunch in it.** And as I am perpetually late, this appealed to me this AM. I needed to just pack it and GO.

*Edgar Wright is the writer/director/awesome sauce responsible in part for such things as the UK series “Spaced” and the movies “Shaun of the Dead” and “Hot Fuzz”.
** A PB&J, raw broccoli and carrots with low fat ranch dip, a pudding cup, and an afternoon snack ( 100 calorie pack of cheez-its).

Love the outfit! I like that pattern more the more I look at it. Have you considered doing clothing swaps with other bloggers so you can get new stuff without spending money?

PS - I think bagels are pretty interesting. And food in general.

I actually really like hearing about how you're dealing with your shopping ban so thanks for posting it, even if it sounds like a bummer. I am always amazed at how often I buy things until I do things like short shopping bans. (Unless they make me want to shop *more*?)

Also, I carry my lunch (and water bottle, and travel mug, and makeup bag, and book, and 2 phones, and some fold-up shopping bags, and work files, etc.) to work with me every day on a 10 min walk-to-the-subway and 40-min subway ride likely without seating every weekday so my bags are alllways huge. Finding one I can keep organized, that won't get grossly dirty and that is waterproof is always a challenge. Also, I tend to use the same bag for months for this reason but I actually like that ease.

Great outfit, and I like that hairstyle. I wear my hair like that sometimes too but it's curly so it looks crazier.

You do look great in those colors! I have a jacket weakness too - but mine is of the winter variety... I really ought to get up early and take outerwear pictures... way to be strong on the Banana Republic purse - things on supersale are my total weakness!

I love the pattern on the dress, and the jacket is so flattering with the outfit's overall shape. As for the shopping ban, does it apply to your hubby thrifting for you? You have posted before about he great finds....just wondering if you could send him out with a list, or if the "great finds" are always happenstance? :-)

Adore this dress too - looks amazing on you!

Hi, Erin. Sorry I haven't visited much to comment lately. I still peruse all your posts via my Google feed, but had to drastically cut back on commenting everywhere because it was getting in the way of real life, know what I mean? Anyhow, I just had to stop by to say: That dress is AWESOME on you, and I can't believe I don't remember seeing it on you before. I'm guessing your shopping ban is helping you to revisit neglected items from your wardrobe? That's one of the great things mine did for me. Well, if gems like this are what comes of it, then I can't wait to see more!

Super cute! An ever-fitting dress is a gift horse for whom we spare the looks in the mouth. Heh.

Also, I swear, you are the only human on the planet that gets such great use out of an F21 purchase. Wait. I have a summer purse from there that is bound and determined to make it through this summer just as well as it did the last. Anyways, these are anomalies! Lucky us!

I like your magic dress and the colours are great on you.
I kinda like dream telling from you, my dreams can be really, really crazy sometimes and so I feel we are on par in this area. Yesterday I dreamt that a man crawled through our window and was going to attack me with a huge nail and Matt wouldn't wake up to defend me... I told you, crazy...
