I am joining the ranks of bloggers before me who have embarked on that great and noble challenge known as the “no buy”. *Sigh* It seems I got a taste of shopping there for a minute with Christmas, and it may have gotten a little out of hand. Not a LOT out of hand mind you, but enough. And I have enough things. So from today until Feburary 28th, I vow to purchase no new clothes, accessories, cosmetics*, or, and here is the real hurt for me…books.
I’m not excited. I don’t really want to do it. But I feel like it’s what I need to do to get control. AND I might add it’s a pretty weak challenge compared to some of those who have gone before me.
That said, I think I dressed for tomorrow’s cold, today. Today seems to be the one odd warm day this week (highs in the 40s!) and I’ve dressed for the days in the teens. I even paid attention to the weather report! But it was cold in the HOUSE when I was putting my outfit together, so that explains it.
I am always so proud when I manage to layer dresses. It’s a skill others seem to have in spades, but I am seriously lacking. I just don’t get it very often. But this black lace dress seems to be the exception and if fact, I only wear it as a bottom layer or with a jacket or sweater.
I think boots with a high heel would have been more appealing visually, but I just wasn’t feeling it. For some reason cold weather makes me want to wear flats. And these are lined with flannel and exceptionally warm in the leg.
Sugar Free Red Bull. It’s the first thing I have every day. My stomach is too sensitive for coffee, I don’t really like Diet soda and there isn’t really enough caffine in it to get me going. But Sugar Free Red Bull is love. It’s sweet and fizzy and sharp and perfection. When I gave up soda for Lent last year, I said “soda, but not red bull”. And I missed soda SO MUCH. But I could never give up my Red Bull.
How cute are those together? I can’t believe I didn’t think of it before!
I love how LONG these are. They look great with short or long hair, up or down, and are light as a feather but make quite a statement.
*the exception will be concealer, foundation and mascara if I run out and only if I run out. No upgrading or changing.

I love your look today, the layers are great.
My heart jumped at the sight of those earrings again, Sniff...so proud!
Not even a new frock for your birthday? Sad.
I know, layering dresses is tough! I've only done it once I think. I love the tiny print on the dress and the way you layered the tights, socks and boots.
Oh and P.S. super flattered that your husband liked my blog because your blog roll is loooooong! So tell him thanks!
Love your bag!
The layering is superb! And I love your color combos here, stuff I'm usually too wimpy to try myself.
Wow. You look fab. Seriously.
Layering is amazing, you always do such a great job! Lovin' the socks also. :)
I'm hopping on the shopping ban bandwagon as well, though not quite as strictly.
Essentially, I've forbidden myself from buying more than $40 worth of clothes each month. Bonus points if I spend way less to nothing.
So I guess it's really more of a budget than a ban.
I really love what you did here, with everything! The dresses look great together, the hoodie under the jacket is awesome and the tights are perfection. A+++
I hope your no-buy goes quickly & isn't too painful. :( Good for you!
You can totally do it, lady. You can! Are you saving toward a goal, or just trying to cut down on the spending?
Great layering - totally get on how you feel about it - I am totally layering challenged...
Your ban seems very reasonable, I am sure you will make it .
I am trying do something similar this year. I'm going to try and only buy items that will make things I don't wear or I haven't worn work. In other words...instead of just buying new for news sake, it has to stretch and/or complete my existing wardrobe! And for the next few months only a pair of skinny jeans I need. Best wishes! you can do it!
This is one of my favorite outfits you've ever put on the blog.
The earrings look fabulous. Very feminine.
Good luck on the ban. It's tough, hopefully you have a decent library nearby.

I find layering so hard - you have pulled it off like a pro! Good luck on your no-shop project, I'm too weak for such an endeavor but I'll be routing for you.
I truly love this outfit. The layers are sheer perfection and I especially love those socks.
I know what it's like to be on a shopping ban, we've all been there. :(
Do those socks creep down? I hate that feeling!
Nicely layered dresses...
Does this shopping ban mean no fang necklace?
I need to stop again too, especially since we got a tax re-assessment bill last night. I need to cry.
You look so great with those thigh-high socks. Perfect outfit!
Linda, I still love them, girl!~
MAV, I have the new Rodarte!~ I’ll just save it. Any ideas what I should DO for my birthday?
Lauren, GOOD LUCK. That seems very reasonable.
SAL, Just trying not to spend. I am perpetually broke. I hate it. I need some reprogramming about “needing” vs. “wanting”!
Sarina, Good luck to you too!
WendyB, NOPE. They stay put, especially when layered over tights or leggings.
Everyone else, as always thank you so much for the kind word and encouragement!~
You look so pretty here :)
Very Very cute outfit - everything goes so well together :)

Wow, that's a long ban for no shopping at all. Good luck!
My husband and I sell off our unwanted books to a second-hand bookstore and they give us credit (for more books!) in exchange. Could you do that? I couldn't live without books!
I love the tiny print on the dress and the way you layered the tights, socks and boots.
see through lingerie
I decided to read just one more post since my kid has only said he was starving twice as opposed to his usual 3 times!
This outfit is adorable! Love the top dress, love the OTKs. Love the blazer. It's just love love love.
