The Tattoo Ink Never Runs Dry

Did you guys watch Portlandia? I didn't think the promos looked very funny to be honest but we had free IFC* long enough to catch the entire run and it was super funny. It basically makes fun of everyone I know, including myself.

Anyways! I had my first day at Buffalo Exchange yesterday and it went really well. I think the transition of going from both working in an office with a dress code and the restrictions of 30x30 to being able to literally wear anything I want at any time, is sort of overwhelming. So even though I felt like my outfit was super-crazy-I-can't-believe-I-can-wear-shorts-happy-fun-time it was still one of the most conservative outfits on the floor.

3.2.11

I still love it though!

3.2.11

I've had those shorts for a while now but never wore them. They just didn't look right with anything I tried but that's because they need to be worn with something either fitted (no thanks) or tucked in, and I never tucked anything in. Something I learned during the 30x30 is that I CAN and SHOULD tuck blouses in sometimes. I had it in my head it's unflattering on me but...

A. Who cares? and
B. It's not.

3.2.11

As a little "Congratulations on your new job" gift Nathan went to The Shining boutique again, and he got me a new Moon Raven Designs piece (how cool is it that they carry one of my my favorite jewelry designers?).

3.2.11

This piece is both a ring and a pendant and it is cast from a lizard skull and yes, it makes me cooler than everyone else as long as I am wearing it. (Just kidding. Kind of.)

3.2.11

I love it as a ring most but I also love that I can still wear it as a pendant, because it's more everyday versatile that way!

*Dish Network gives us a few free channels every month, I know it's meant to entice us into upgrading our package, but it doesn't. We like free stuff too much. It's more fun the way it is.

I know the overwhelming feeling! I'm suffering the same thing this week, now that I have my full closet back!

I like the tucking, and I found the same thing out during my 30x30 in fall. I just keep forgetting about it now!

Holy macaroni that's an amazing piece of jewelry! I wish my guy would find awesome things like that...sigh...

Love the shorts and floral...

Congrats on Day 1 at your job!

I have been tucking lately, I always felt it was wrong but saw it on other bloggers and thought, "I can do that too!" And it looks great on you.

TOTALLY LOVE Portlandia. Last episode not as funny, but in general utterly hysterical and so true.

Wow, you look amazing! I can't wait to see how your style is going to evolve now without the dress code restrictions! Actually kind of makes me want to go ask about positions at my local Buffalo Exchange. Hmmm

Your shorts look really cute. How fun to not have to deal with an office dress code!

The ring/pendant is killer. Add it to any outfit and BAM! There it is. {That's the cousin to the slightly less awesome and infinitely more weird "Whoop there it is."}

Your florals are amazing and those shorts are filling me with envy as we speak. {I'll be completely green soon.} I wish I could wear dress shorts to work! I can't even wear cropped pants or capris on casual day!!!

Comcast has Portlandia on demand for free, but I haven't watched it yet. I thought the promo was funny from the little time I got to live there it rang true and made my heart hurt from missing it!!

I am in love with what you did with this outfit. That striped top peaking out from under that floral one is incredible. I honestly would have never thought to mix those patterns that way, but man does it look fantastic!

And you're new ring/pendant is awesome!

i also used to be firmly in the anti-tuck group too (for myself, not others) but i have been dipping the occasional toe into the tucking waters. i havent yet developed the ability to know what will + wont work, but its nice to have the option -- it opens the door for a slew of new looks!

totally unrelated, your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to get Buffalo Exchange into the DC area. i can haz? ;)

I love your first-day outfit! You look GORGEOUS! I gave "Portlandia" a couple of tries but I just didn't love it. On the other hand, I haven't gotten the song you linked to out of my head in WEEKS, so... there's that.

Love and covet the necklace. Love the striped tee under the floral top. Love your shirt tucked in (yay!) Love those shorts. Love that you can wear basically whatever you want to work and still be the best dressed. So I'm basically full of love for you today.

You look great for work! I love the shorts, too.
And... I adore Portlandia, but only have been able to watch the free clips online. The Dream of the 90s Is Alive in Portland! Makes this 31 year old feel right at home! haha!

AAAAHHHH! Congrats on your first day yesterday! you.look.smokin'! the shorts/tights thing is something i keep seeing, but i don't think it's for me! you and your long legs are rockin' it out tho.

and this post made me laugh - specifically the pacing of text and picture with the two points about tucking tops in... you're fabulous, erin!

I loooooooove The Shining! And its neighbor, We Are 1976! I think they're showing a friend's jewelry tonight/having a free party too. Just sayin' free snacks are where it's at.

P.S. I am totally with you on the tucking-in thing. I was convinced I would look chubby, but not so!

You do look good with your shirt tucked in! And I'm glad you had a good first day.

I still haven't watched the show yet but the promo made me laugh. I have friends in Portland in the music scene aaaand. . . yeah, most of if rang true. :)

Oh my goodness - I'm curating some lizard skeletons that have skulls that look just like that one today! And now a little part of me is tempted to try and put a skull on my finger. But that would make me a bad curator, so I won't.

And well done on tucking! I've been personally anti-tucking for years, too, but I'm starting to come around.

And congrats on the job, lady!

I am weird about tucking shirts in too, but I'm slowly making myself get over it! I love the shorts on you - the cut is super cute! And what a perfect gift. Serious amounts of adorable coming out of that Nathan lately!

Lady, I am still so stinking excited for you! I think I am living vicariously through you because I dream of working at such a place and being able to wear whatever the heck I want... I LOVE that you are able to do that now! :)

This badass pendant/ring with floral? Basically, just totally badass. :)

That ring is so killer!! Love it!!
Great how you styled those shorts with the florals and stripes...
I also have learned the wonders of tucking a shirt in...

I used to feel really weird about tucking in shirts. I've gotten to where I like it with high waisted stuff though. The shorts are really cute! I hope you get more wear out of them.

Liz said...

You most certainly can tuck in tops and look fabulous while doing so. Can't wait to see more non-restricted work outfits. I think I would go a bit crazy without any dress code.

Love the outfit! And I love Portlandia. I'm a fellow Portlander as well, and I think it's hilarious. It's fun seeing clips of places that I have been or go to frequently. PUT A BIRD ON IT!!!

Christa said...

I've only seen the first episode of Portlandia and some clips (I watch free TV online so I guess I'll have to wait), but I loved it. I live in Portland, and so much of it was spot-on! On another note, YAY for your waist-defining look today! I think it's a more flattering look in general, and looks great on you.

Congrats on your new job! I've been out of town, and was so out of the loop. That's great!

Also: my co-workers and I have been singing "The Dream of the 90's" at work all week. We are obsessed.

So many things to say:
A. Huzzah on your first day of work! You look awesome.
B. Your husband is Made Of Win.
C. I bought a pair of the Forever 21 shorts, too. I'm trying to work up the courage to wear them on air.
D. As a short-waisted woman, I understand your fear of tucking-in. But trust in everyone's positive comments. You look great!

Linley said...

i love that hint of stripes peaking out from the floral top. it's the perfect amount. looks lovely!

There is so much effing WIN in this outfit. From Portlandia to the RADDEST NECKLACE/RING EVER MADE, to your outfit and your awesome job. So. much. win.

As Charlie Sheen would say, "Winning!" I absolute think you can tuck your shirt in because it is flattering and so glad to hear your first day went well!

Speaking as a Portlander, I have to say: it's funny 'cause it's true.

Speaking as someone who makes things with birds on them, I have to say: ouch. (And, ahahahaha!)
