I Just Love You More Than Anything

I’m back. My four day trip to Austin was relaxing and super fun. We stayed with our friends Cody and Ashlee out at their vacation-home-style-but-it's-a-real-home-house in Hill Country. They have the whole house set up to feel like a resort in Cabo with dual wooden balconies, a fire pit, and fabulous furniture. They are putting in a pool and hot tub and it’s going to be fabulous. They also have some special windows and they didn't need to use the AC the entire time we were there which was really nice, because the house was just OPEN to the outdoors all the time. We spent lots of time on the balcony drinking beer or coffee and chatting and it was perfect.

The music festival was amazing too. I love music, but festivals are often not my thing. They go on too long and I get over-saturated. This one was great and I liked 85% of the bands we saw, which is really good for me.

Here is the thing about Austin, or at least the people in the music scene there…they take style seriously. So many people have such distinct styles that it is almost overwhelming. It was a lot to take in and it actually played on my self esteem a bit. I didn’t feel as cool or hip as I normally do. I’m not saying that I am the coolest hippest girl ever to grace the planet, but I’m not boring. I felt boring in Austin at times. But it was a good experience. So much of what is happening in terms of style in Dallas feels like herd mentality and I am sure if I stayed in Austin long enough I’d see the patterns there too. But it was a nice change of scenery once I adjusted.

In fact, Austin inspired me to try something a little out of bounds today.

(Just one pic today. I had an issue with sleep deprived crazy eyes in all the others)

I like the top and the skirt together, I think that was a win. I’ve been dying to try something like this out for months, but didn’t have the pieces. I found this top at Target for 12 bucks and knew it was what I needed. It’s even cream and black instead of black and white, which is perfect for the skirt, since it is cream based as well. I don’t love the boots. Normally I can get away with these boots with skirts and shorts, but this combo is making my legs look a bit…big? And I do not have big legs. My legs are my constant. Always tall, always skinny. I think next time I’ll try a clog, I think that will work much better.

Hey, we're shirt twins! I just posted an outfit wearing the exact same one.

PS. Your legs don't look big at all.

The clothing combo works great! But I have to agree with you about the boots. Now, don't get me wrong. If I didn't know you, I would be screaming up and down "those are perfectly lovely, slim legs in that picture!" which they are. :) But I also know that your legs generally look slimmer and longer than that. So, I would kill for legs that look like yours do in this photo, but if you want them to look more like "your" legs, then you might be right about trying clogs.

And, having said all that, you look great! I really like the combo of floral and stripes on you. I feel like it really embodies your love of floral patterns and your general rocker vibe.

I absolutely LOVE this combination!

I love the stripes with floral and now I realize I'd really like a cream striped top - white is too harsh sometimes! I know what you mean about not feeling cool sometimes... when I go to certain bars or concerts I just feel left out of the cool hipster parade, but I'm okay with it!

Gorgeous mix of patterns!!!!

I used to feel "uncool" around my SIL, but got over it...not sure how.

well you are definitely not boring, Erin! your style rocks my socks off all the time in a completely unique way... and I live in the San Francisco area where people wear some crazy ass shit! yet your style is still interesting to me (and fabulous!). So, there's my two cents.

As for this outfit... amazing! I've been wanting to try b/w stripes and floral too... I love how you've done it. I think clog heels would look fab with this too... what about your taller black boots as another option? I'm literally in love with those and think they might fix the problem of feeling like your legs look bigger than they are.

Isn't it amazing how getting thrown into a new style pool can feel so overwhelming? I'm glad you were able to take some of that trepidation and turn it into creativity! Love this pattern mash-up.

I love the combination of stripes and floral prints. At first, I was not a fan, but it is starting to grow on me! You pull it off amazingly.

I am so glad you tried this! It looks amazing. I think the boots are perfect, I'm sure real life they look different too. It all works so well.

I can't imagine that you weren't still edgy and cool looking, even in Austin (you were just in good company of fellow edgy and fashionable types). But I totally get that. Sometimes, I feel well dressed and interesting looking here in NY, but other times I feel like just an oddly dressed nerd.
I agree that you have killer legs. I really like this combo, but then again, I am a big partisan of the idea that Western Boots Flatter Everyone. (I think your legs look great in this outfit.)

I love this look and you have just inspired me to pair my strip t with patterned skirts when the weather warms up a little more!

I love the boots with this, they look great and your legs don't look at all big.

I don't think they look big, but something about where the skirt and the boots hit, possibly also the shapes, is making your legs look shorter. And since your legs normally go *way* up, your eye is reading wide rather than short. But yay! colours!
