On the Avenue, Fifth Avenue, the Photographers Will Snap Us

I don’t know if it is a Southern thing, or a Baptist thing, or just an Easter thing, but all my life I’ve had a new dress for Easter, an “Easter Dress”. I even got one last year, at the beginning of all of this*. But this year, no dice. I didn’t even really think about it. I have plenty of dresses, and it’s just one day, and it happens regardless of if my dress is old or new. I didn’t even plan my outfit for church until Saturday night, and when I did, I picked through the florals and the pastels…and then I decided that if I was going to buck tradition by not getting a new dress, I was going to buck it all the way and wear whatever I wanted.

April 4 (Easter Sunday)

Check THAT out. Fall colors for Easter.

April 4 (Easter Sunday)

I hadn’t worn that dress in a while, because it had been too small, but it looks like I’m making progress, because it was tight, but it zipped! Score!

April 4 (Easter Sunday)

It was FREEZING in the church (is it just me, or is it pretty much always freezing in every church all the time?) so I was glad I went with tights and a cardigan. Most years I get fooled by the whole “Spring” thing and go barelegged and wear sandals, but this year I remembered!

I love love love those little flowers. The picture makes them look a little dull but in real life they are the prettiest shade of lilac. And I know they are a weed, but I don’t care, they are so pretty. Prettier than plain ole grass.

April 4 (Easter Sunday)

I made the druzy slice earrings a while back. Just chain looped around a couple slices and put on hooks. They are asymmetrical, and I wasn’t 100% sure about them but I get tons of compliments on them and I love the way they feel. They are super swingy.

And I can’t not post these adorable pictures of my baby boy…

*And by all of this I mean my husband’s unemployment. I did not know then it was the beginning, I mean how could I? He’s smart, and good at what he does and fun and good looking and an amazing conversationalist, so I had no idea the market was bad enough he would still be unemployed, but I suppose that’s a rant for another day.

I'm not sure who started the idea of a new dress for Easter, but I'm used to it too (raised on the West Coast, part-time Catholic). So it was odd for me to see folks walking to Lakewood Sunday wearing gym shorts, white tees, too tight jeans, tank tops, and every other form of non-church clothes. But, I was reminded that folks are welcomed to come as they are.

I love your look with fall colors and really love the earrings. Super cute (as is your little fella).

I can sympathize with you on your guy being unemployed. Mine was from March 09 thru Dec 09. His current job pays a wage you'd pay a HS kid! That's outrageous. And we have more people moving here (Texas) daily because they think the job prospects are better than where the moved from - ha!!! We just keep plugging along, applying and applying and networking and applying.

Keep your faith, something's gotta give really soon.

The druzy earrings are SO COOL, and I love the colors in this dress. I totally get why you like it, and I quite like it for making a fun statement at Easter.

I too believe in the power of the Easter dress! LOL! Hell, I would still carry a basket if I those pesky kids wouldn't ask for my candy!

By the way, I did a post on Friday for my "late" Stay Fabulous or Get Slapped Friday:)

Love the dress you are wearing...and I almost bought that belt this weekend from Target but in brown but i didn't want to pay the 25 bucks for it...I'm cheap! LOL

I'm loving that dress and it looks so good paired with those tights! our doggy is sooooo cute!

I really wish your husband good luck finding something soon! Mine can't legally work in the US until his permanent residency paperwork processes, and he was unfunded during the winter term. So things have been tight for us, too, and I'm very grateful that I will be employed next year. It is not a good time to be finishing a PhD and looking for an academic position.

I've been feeling the urge to trot out autumnal tones, too. What is that? Well, regardless, the not-new Easter dress is gorgeous and you've styled it so well with those rich tights.

Adorable dress. I also just LOVE that your post title is a line from the title song of Easter Parade, one of my all-time favorite movies. Gotta love Fred and Judy!

Even though these are "fall" colors you look great for Easter. I love the print on the dress. Congrats on making it fit again!

I don't believe in religion at all now, but did grow up with the same dress tradition - and I have to say I love what you did here!

Beautiful print on that dress, and the earrings are FAB. Great job.

Also sending best employment wishes for you guys, and yeah, my gosh, your dogger is super cute.

I've just started following your blog (and will probably rarely comment) but I have to say I love your style! I love the earrings, I totally want to go out and make some for myself.

I also really just had to comment to tell you how much I love that picture of your cute boy! I have two small dogs that I adore, it was fun to see a picture of yours.

I also grew up with the "new Easter clothes" tradition.

I think your outfit looks spring-y, between the frog and the floral print.

This dress looks great on you. I love the way you styled it with tights.
I am sorry about your fella's employment situation. Things are pretty bad but I hope that they look up for your family soon.

Growing up I always had an Easter dress too. When I was little it was the best because Easter dresses come with Easter HATS and those were the most glamorous thing I would get to wear all year.

Also I LOVE YOUR EARRINGS! ahhhhh!

As for church being cold - I always think church is too warm! Well to be honest, until yesterday it had been years since I had ever even been in a church, but it all came flooding back. About 30 minutes in I start feeling sick to my stomach - it's been like that for my whole life, I remember HATING Wednesdays in grade school because that was the morning we would go to church and I always felt so terrible and would be afraid that I would barf in front of the whole school. Something about the combination of the heat, and the kneeling, and all the people crowded in...I feel like I'm going to faint.

Erin, the fall print totally works for you. It's a welcome pop of color among all the pastels of Spring. I love it!

Ditto on the NEW Easter dress growing up. My mom still gets me new ones, albeit thrifted. I think your dress is GORGEOUS, though, and could beat any new dress out of the water. Except maybe teeny tiny munchkin new Easter dresses which are the cutest things ever.

I love the dress! And the earrings are subtle but elegant.

I'm not at all religious, but I used to sing in a choir, and pretty much every church we sang in was FREEZING cold, regardless of season. So it's definitely not just you.
