Because Wearing Black is Mysterious, But It Didn’t Impress Her Mother.

spin

Hey everyone, I'm going to slow everything down here on WWWYG for awhile.

I'm NOT quitting, but I really do need to slow down and have fewer posts per week.

I know that the blogs that are the most popular are the ones that update daily, heck, my favorite blogs are almost all updated daily. But I also know that I need a break. I used to get immense joy out of blogging, but right now I feel mostly pressure (all from myself, none from you, my lovely readers, who bring me so much joy with your fun comments and insights).

I’m not inspired by my wardrobe. Thrifting is no longer fun; it’s frustrating, mainly because it’s my only option right now. I’m not having fun pressuring myself to update every day. I am putting too much importance on not wearing the exact same outfit this week that I wore last week. I’ve updated lately with some things I felt were lackluster at best and just this side of lazy. So I’ve decided to only update when I feel like what I am wearing is worth blogging about.

So for now, I’m most likely going to be blogging about 2-3 times a week versus the 5 you are used to. I’m sure that when my life calms down and things get back to normal that blogging will be as much fun as it used to be, and I’ll ramp it back up to 5 a week. I do love it. And I love YOU. My readers and my regular commenters make my day most days, and I cannot thank you enough for that. I hope you’ll stick around.

Everything you just said, I'm feeling. OK, I never really was a 5-days-a-week blogger but even my slower blogging schedule has been feeling more like work the past few weeks because it sometimes feels like more pressure than fun to come up with new outfits every day. To be honest, for about a month I just coasted on stored-up outfit posts, thinking that I would be back into the swing of things before anyone missed me. But that didn't happen.

Anyway I don't know what my point is except that I'm right there with you.

I love your blog, your humor, your creativity, and honesty (and look at those legs in that picture! For miles!) I understand completely. You don't even have to post 3 times a week if you don't want to.
I also think that while this blog has been mostly a personal style one, you have such a great voice that if you wrote about other fashion/style related things, I know that I'd like to read. Other bloggers do stuff like fanatasy shopping, assessing trends, and sell their clothes on their blogs. Just suggestions (feel free to ignore).
Hope things settle down and I look forward to whatever you end up posting.

I've never understood daily outfit bloggers. Sometimes I just want to wear a plain shirt and black trousers, and noone wants to see that.

I understand where you're coming from as well. Blogging shouldn't be a chore, it should be fun. So it's ok to take it easy for a bit, and we'll still be here when you come back, so to speak!

Of course I will stick around! Love your humor and your realistic outlook and will look forward to seeing whatever posts you decide to make! :)

Because my blog is more a "lifestyle" blog where I also post outfits I don't feel too much pressure to post outfits daily but at the same time I post what I wear no matter what. I have posted the same outfit 4 times and NO ONE SEEMED TO NOTICE. heee. I rewear the same outfits all the time actually.
I post the good with the bad. Not saying your should just talking about myself because I think this song is about me... I'm so vaiiiiiiiiin

I also had the same dilemma. My bf kept telling me not to post if I was repeating clothes or something I wore before. I told him (after I cussed him out in Chinese) that I am a real person and real people repeat their clothes. I am not Puff Daddy who wears his tennish shoes once then throws them away.

Anyway, the point is I so understand. I actually just stopped posting every day without announcing anything. It just got to much for me. Now, I just blog when I feel like without feeling like I am going to lose followers.

By the way...I see you in that Zac Posen dress for Target...LOVES IT!

Do what you need to do!

I hope you do keep blogging, have you thought about maybe doing a bit of sewing? It's a good way to inject some life into a wardrobe when you're broke.

You won't lose me as a reader!!!

You've got to do what you need to do for yourself, and NO ONE can fault you for that. Do what feel right for you, and we'll still be here reading whatever you post. :-)

Also, you look absolutely fabulous in the Zac Posen!!! Wow. Lovely!

Do whatever you need to do in order to maintain your balance and feel happy. I'll keep reading whether you post five times a week or one.

You do have some supportive readers. I hope it becomes more thrilling for you. People are going to think our skinny pants challenge drove us mad. LOL

You are loved and you are fabulous

post when you feel like. we'll keep reading and loving. (also, the first picture is so fabulous!). i hope things slow down and you feel better soon. :)

Ah, the doubled-edged sword of outfit blogging. For a while, it's a challenge to do something new each day ... but eventually, it becomes an annoyance.

Take all the time you need, doll.

I've gotta say, I'll be sad to see fewer updates I'll also look forward to it when you do update, if that makes sense. I hope things get back to their joyful beginnings soon. :)

I blogged every day -- weekends, holidays, sick days, vacations -- for more than a year and then I totally pooped out. Blogging every other day (and not weekends) isn't so great for traffic but it does give people more time to appreciate your posts! I think that's a good thing.

Oh, I so totally understand how you're feeling. Just know that you have loads of loyal readers (although I'd rather call us "friends") that'll stick with ya whether you post 7 days a week, 2, or not at all. :)

Since I get everyones posts through my RSS feed, and I subscribe to over 70 feeds, I never have any clue how often people post. I just read what shows up in the reader, whatever lovely random mix it might be. If I only see 4 posts a month from you, it will still be nice to see that you're alive.

Branka said...

I have to agree with previous comment, i follow many MANY blogs and have no idea how often any of bloggers post. Not-a-clue.
So take all the time you need, we will still be here anytime you decide to post.
I just recently started blogging and decided from start that it will be something i ENJOY. Otherwise, what's the point, right?
Take care Erin, we love you sweetie.

Yes, do what you need to! I've come to believe that that blogging should be something you do because you want to, not out of a sense of obligation/fear of losing readers (who are likely here, like me, for your original voice and won't be scared off by a lighter posting schedule!)

Post when you want to and we'll look forward to it. :)

Do what works for you, and post when you feel like it! I love your blog, and I'll continue to read it no matter how many times you post per week. I know how you feel about slowing down on blogging- I feel like the more I post, the more pressure there is to find a new outfit to post or think of something witty and interesting.

I'll be looking forward to your next post!

I adore your blog, no matter how often you post. I'm not going anywhere!

I was feeling the same way when I came back from my honeymoon. I say do what you've got to do to keep yourself happy! We'll be here.

I was thinking about you today. I've my hair in an Erin Bump. And I went to that Salvation Army you and I went together. And I bought a dequin jacket, just like you did when we were there. I thought that was pretty funny, esp considering that I haven't been back there since we went.

We'll be here when you get back - no worries mate! Take your time & blog when you can!

I'm new to your blog, but I feel compelled to let you know how much I have enjoyed it in the past few weeks. I will absolutely continue to check in a few times a week for wardrobe inspiration. I admire your creativity, and you are totally radiant!

Take time to relax, we're not going anywhere. =) Even us quiet readers!

I'll still be reading your every post (I love rss readers) and< i just have to say, you look absolutely gorgeous in that first shot.
I think my favourite bit is your hair echoing the skirt of the dress in twirliness.

So long as you keep blogging is all that matters! I love seeing and reading you, and I really love how much more fun you've been having in your photography again.
I repeat a lot of the same outfits; you have to unless you're a skadillionaire. Don't sweat that.

I'll just save you up for Fridays then! Keep to a pace you're comfortable with, but please don't let us lose your voice entirely.

Jodie said...

Duh of course we'll be sticking around ;) I know I'd love to see you having more fun with your clothes, because that's what drew me in - the fun you bring to fashion. Maybe taking off the cuff pics at the fun places you go more will inspire you (like the tree pictures). Hope life evens out and the money sitch becomes a bit better so thrifting stops being your only option.

Feel better soon! We'll be here when you get back :) No worries.

I'm amazed by bloggers that have the energy to post every day (or close to it). It's really hard to keep up that momentum, so I understand needing a break. Like other people have commented, it needs to be FUN, not a chore. But it's fun for us to see your outfits, so don't be too much of a stranger (like some lazy bloggers I know ;).

Oh and that first photo of you is fantastic. Maybe my favorite that you've ever posted.

I will follow regardless. Taking time for yourself always results in a positive outcome. :)

I will definately stick around! Some family things just came up very suddenly for me and I'm taking it as a good excuse to calm down my blogging for a bit. I think in the meantime I'll be working at re-vamping my blog a bit and getting excited about it again. It cane be hard to come up with things to write so often, and for me I think writting better things less often may be the way to go. Oh blogging, the best Catch 22 out there..

Your life and happiness are way more important than a blog. Blogging should be fun not a huge chore. Don't worry, we'll keep reading.

Hope you have as much joy in life as in that first photo.Love that dress and those shoes!

I really love both these pictures!

I am definitely sticking around. You've probably noticed I've gotten worse at updating too, but sometimes life and sanity are just more important. We all understand and want you to be happy!

Burnout on something you love is no fun. You'll be inspired again soon...especially with the change in season. I look forward to reading when you do post.

Kyla said...

Ain't no shame in that! Do whatever it takes to keep it fun. Otherwise, it's just not worth it!

BTW, I love, love, love that first picture of you. So cute!

Brickhouse said...

Of course we'll stick around! Please know that no matter how often you post your efforts are very much appreciated - especially by those of us who are in the same boat as you. I get lots of inspiration here but creativity has to be recharged, so slow things down as much as you need to. I'm down to posting about once a week myself, lol.

Two beautiful photos! And I totally understand about slowing down. I’ve also had to do so recently and it has been really refreshing to only post things I'm really happy with. Blogging is a curious beast, it can be quite consuming if you let it.
ps I haven't noticed a drop in comments or followers so I'm sure you won't

I swear, this must be an epidemic!!! This week I only posted 2, maybe 3 times? I too feel "pressure" to be "on" and dressed in a funky blog-worthy outfit a lot lately. I am coming up with non-sense outfits just to post something unique! And I worry when I lose a follower. What did I do wrong? etc... I can't imagine the pressure of having as many followers as u do! These are the most lovely photos of you ever! (a good re-post is great, too ;) You will always be the coolest. I kinda like bloggers who post 2/4 times week. Then I have something to look forward to! A "big-time" blogger told me in the beginning, "Do it for yourself. If it no longer brings u joy, stop." I think we all need a break from time to time :)
(sorry I rambled) xoxoxox!

blogging should be fun...
i often wonder how bloggers are able to post 5-7 days a week... does their day have more hours than mine?!
i don't have enough time to shoot my outfits everyday or even post them everyday... I'm a so called '2-3 times a week blogerette' and i feel proud about it. ; )
so feel free to take a break as long as you need to.

I'll be sticking around, whether you post every day or once a month. I love your blog and I'm sure inspiration & motivation will come back after they've had a brief vacation (after all, who doesn't need a holiday every now and then). Hugs from Australia!

I still think a couple of posts a week is amazing. I would be thrilled if I managed to do two or three a month! And honestly, I prefer blogs that post less frequently anyhow, because the volume of posts in my Google Reader can get to be overwhelming!

Good for you. Very good for you. Take a break. Slow down. Be happy! Life is too short to stress ourselves out, right?
